Your dad asks computer questions

Current is indeed awesome. You'll start seeing the same "pods" over and over if you don't give a 2 week break every once in a while.

I started off thinking I was the son ... before I realized that I was really the father.

I sent the link to the video to my son ... the network admin.

I hope he likes it as much as I did.

Thank you ...

The last time my dad asked me a computer question, it was about a VB program he was updating to interface with power switches or something.

I saw this on the front page of Youtube last night. It's excerpted from SuperNews.

Watch the whole episode of SuperNews (I think this is from Ep 6) - the other skits are even funnier!

*remembers his Dad and how his questions always involved viejas and webcams*

I'm basically the help desk / net admin in this house. My dad is like one of those users that always screws up the computer and can't figure out basic tasks like copy and paste, while my mom is an average user that may need occasional help but nothing major, as long as the mail server and home drives is up. 😛

My dad FREAKS when anything is down or does not work properly. In fact I can feel the tension when I go in the computer/server room (where the family PC is - I have my own in my room) since if I'm doing any kind of maintenance he automatically thinks something is wrong and starts to panic.

The best so far is that he filled the D drive with all his pictures (he takes a lot of pics, and I told him he may as well just take them at max res so he can resize/crop later, but those take lot of room). So when I told him I'd have to move them to the server's raid array to make room he's like "I thought computers had unlimited space!". lmao

RedSquirrel, it'll be worse when you move out and are far from home, and have to take him through the steps by phone.
If it took you 2 minutes to take care of then, it'll take 20 minutes just to get him to consistently differentiate between Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer.

Every support call, at least five times...
"Open up Windows Explorer, navigate to <filename>, and run the program."

".....single click or double click?"

*facepalm, >5x*

"Run it the same way you run every other executable program you've ever opened."

Should've told them to open My Computer. Most non-computer whizzes don't know windows explorer as most don't access it through clicking a windows explorer icon.

He does use Explorer directly. I know, as I've seen him use it. He even knows how to copy, cut, and paste files. (A surprising number of people only know drag-and-drop from one window to another.) And he makes some fairly impressive spreadsheets in Excel.

But Internet Explorer is "the Internet," as is Firefox.🙁
