Your computer habit?

I've been using my rig for about 1.5 years now, so far this comp pretty much run 24/7 without turning off. Monitor not running on powersave or anything but screensaver on 5 min after w/o use. Been ok so far, only lately i'm seeing double characters/pictures on my monitors and it went away after a min or two. But yea, with all those hours running/idling, alot of dust collected inside, have to get the inside cleaned up at least once a month or so.
Anyway just curious of what others computer habit are...🙂 and maybe some tips/advice for regular comp maintenance.

I clean out the dust once in a while...

I leave mine on 24/7. Mine has been on 19.5 days right now.

Monitor goes to standby after 10 minutes I think?

Monitor is the oldest thing in the system... about 4 years old I think. Still looks excellent.

Been using my current system for almost 2 years. Before that, I had 3 other machines. The first machine I had, I turned it off everyday. Now, I just leave my computer running 24/7 unless I am going to be gone for awhile. I hardly ever clean my machine, nor do I do maintenance in general other than run Norton AV once in awhile and defrag. I've never had a computer die on me, and I've been using them since 1987 so I must be doing something right.

i've been on the current computer since late november/early december of '03. it's on 95% of the time, but the monitor is off a lot. what do u mean by computer habit anyway?

I start turning it off as a sort of respect for my roommate as well as respect for all my apartment mates because of power saving issues. Everyone turns their comp off or they use laptops, so I figure I'll turn it off. If I really want AIM on or something, I'll leave my laptop on.

Only time my comp stays on is if I need to download something huge from BT that will take like a week.. or if I'm doing stability test runs.

Computer habit as in cleaning routine, monitor setting for stand-by while not in use, whether the pc is running 24/7, etc. I couldnt find the right word for those i guess. Sorry if the word of computer habit created confusion. English is my second language. Thanks for the input btw.

My habit is having too many PCs and laptops in the first place! Thank GOD I don'y pay for electricity! 🙂

Habits:

Cleaning and inspection (capacitors/wiring/connectors etc...) monthly. I have 4 cats (not by choice) so lint/dust is an issue for me.

Power settings:
-Cool and quiet on when not gaming
-no screen saver, monitor set to turn off after 15 minutes
-when I'm not using my PC, I turn it off

Mine stays on 24/7, longest uptime I had on this machine was around 90 days I think. Monitor goes into stand by after 30 mins, if I'm gona be gone for awhile and not currently upping any torrents I'll put it into standby. The front filter on the Lian Li really works well; I've only cleaned the inside out thoughly once in well over a year, just have to remember to clean the filter every 2-3 weeks.

turn on every day after school, or on weekends when i wake up. turn off at night. clean out dust whenever my temps start rising. monitor shuts off after 8 mins of inactivity.

turn off when go to sleep turn on when i wake up unless downloading i keep it on for night. I havent really had alot of dust yet i guess its because the pc only has one fan in the back so it sucks air thru the side holes. when i walk away from the computer i turn off the monitor to save power.

cool, i started putting my monitor on standby after 20 min starting yesterday. Thanks for the tip. My desktop is off today (at school now on lappy), will turn it on again tonite.

I leave my comp on when I leave but turn it off when going to bed due to the bright LEDs that I put in it.

Main reason why I leave it on is folding.

i turn mine off when i got to bed for 1) its a heater 2) its really bright, well the front is and it bugs me, 3) its louds and keeps me up 4) save energy i turn the monitor off when i leave. i turn it on when i get home from school on weekends

I leave my download PC on 24/7, restarting it every week or two when i feel like it.

I turn off my main PC usually when i'm at work or sleeping, since i pay for my power bill.

However, it often gets left on too.

I never use hibernate or standby. I just turn off the LCD when i'm AFK.

Running my pc for 24/7 also. Just restart it once in a while.

Had been run like this for about 1 year without shutting it down.

Off my monitor when i'm going somewhere else or sleep.

that all...

Leave my computer on for 4 days now, I usually restart every week.

Turn off my monitor when I'm not home and of course when I get in bed.

as far as cleaning habits go, i haven't cracked my case open to dust for a couple months... :Q

i usually only leave mine on when leeching, which is about one night a week. other than that, i shut it down when not in use.

my current build is going to be 1 year old in November.
