Hourly people, what is the company policy at your work place if you work on a holiday?
Time and a half?
Double time?
Flat rate normal pay?
Vacation hours you can take at a later date?
Just wondering...
Here, they "paid" company holiday pay (everyone) for the holiday,
plus time & half if you actually need to come in and work.
12/2008 policy change....
A worker working on a holiday gets time and a half, but...
the company holiday pay (everyone gets) is reduced hour by hour
for each hour you put in.
So... if everyone gets say 8 hours company holiday pay, but you must come in
on that day, you will get time and a half for the 8 hours, BUT your company
holiday pay is reduced by that 8 hours.
You gain 8 hours @ time and a half, and lose your 8 hour company holiday pay.
You end up working 8 hours for basically 50% above your normal salary rate,
compared to someone that did not work, and stayed home earning 8 hours normal salary in holiday pay.
So if Joe gets $100 for one 8 hour company holiday pay in salary,
and Sue has to work, Sue ends up getting $150.
So basically, Sue worked 8 hours and was paid 50% her hourly rate.
Joe gets his regular work week salary (includes company holiday of 8 hours).
Sue's weekly salary is $50 more than Joe's, even though she worked
8 hours on the holiday.
Make sense???
Seems like a scam to me...?
Sue should be, at least, getting a full 8 hours at her ?regular? hourly pay,
above and beyond the company paid holiday, same pay that Joe got
(sitting at home feeding his face). 😉
