Your comment section under articles doesn't work reliably

My comment here, http://www.anandtech.com/comments/11316/at20-giveaway-day-4-msi-motherboards/546170, link to this http://www.anandtech.com/comments/0//546170 as per this picture http://pasteboard.co/bAWVUjNl.png (I'm holding my mouse pointer over the link at the comment but obviously it's a faulty one leading nowhere) so now my submitted link become wrong and I can't change it.

For the first two giveaways I didn't even knew how to get the link so I pasted the link to the giveaway (noticed the link name after the comment later.)

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with the comment section of our giveaways. Could you try the process again on another browser for me and screenshot it? It's possible that it might be a permissions issue with an ad-blocker or with a browser extension. Try turning them off and see if that works. If not, please screenshot and send that as well. Thanks so much!

I'm unlikely to start using a different browser except Vivaldi if anything. Firefox is slow as fuck and Edge and Internet Explorer.. Well. IE at-least aren't better. Edge have such poor functionality too.

The browser I was using was Version 58.0.3029.81 in Windows 10 Creators edition, activated extensions: Adblock Plus, Copy as plain text - amaz.in/g, Enable right click and Enhanced Steam. The two extensions in the middle clearly was added because some shitty page didn't let me copy text, I could remove those but for long-term purposes there's no chance I'll remove Adblock Plus and Enhanced Steam. If that had anything at all to do with it then I assume one have to make sure those two extensions work. But I've copied the link before (but maybe reloaded the page in-between posting it and copying it), I can try again.

Posted as is, doesn't work:
http://pasteboard.co/1Yrz7wI09.png

Reloaded webpage and then copy link work:
http://pasteboard.co/1YsBgUCxK.png
so it's just the "preview" / one added onto the page directly from posting which show the wrong link, so I guess it may be a general problem and not one just created by my plugin but people not having this problem because they reload the page or what not.

With just Adblock Plus and Steam Enhanced it still doesn't work:

No extensions and it still doesn't work:
http://pasteboard.co/1YwlXGtUv.png

All above Chrome 58. I see there's a new version which will be installed once I restart it but that's what I am and was running.

And it doesn't work in Edge with no extensions either:
http://pasteboard.co/1YAEvwCjW.png
.. plus it was terribly slow in Edge. I can't even really type.. Takes 5+ seconds for the text to show up. AMD Phenom X4 9850 power but ... Chrome show my text.. Even without Adblock Plus. Way better than the POS Edge.

Anyway, zero success no matter how I do it. I'm sure the links are there once the page is reloaded but whatever script generate the data which previews the comment / adds it on top clearly doesn't show the correct link then.

I don't know how to see the version of Edge but I have a fully upgraded copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Clicking the last page in the comment section and then copy the link from there also worked, it's just the AJAX/whatever inserted comment which doesn't have the correct link.

Just out of curiosity, are you right clicking on the time stamp of your comments, or are you right-clicking on another part of the comment?

I'm holding the mouse pointer over / right clicking the part which says "link", the time-stamp isn't a link, only the part which says link is a link and the content have to be reloaded one way or the other for that link to become correct, the preview after posting a comment is giving a broken link.

Can you send a screenshot of what you mean by "broken link"?

It's in all the screenshots above.

In the "preview" / "AJAX"-created comment the link becomes:
http://www.anandtech.com/comments/0//546822
Whereas when you reload the page it become:
http://www.anandtech.com/comments/1...gtx-1080-ti-amp-video-card-zbox-minipc/546822

So where the article number should be inserted there's just a 0 and where the title of the article should be inserted there's nothing, maybe because you do an SQL select for the article with number 0 and it return nothing? Or you do one for what's basically null and the reason for 0 is the same. I don't know but it clearly doesn't work.

This shouldn't be so hard to notice by yourself by simply posting a comment to any article and then when it show below check where "link" after the username and time-stamp lead to and you'll notice it's broken. Reload the page or go to the last comment page (which also regenerates it) and it will be correct.

I assume the comments which are generated when the whole page is reloaded is generated by a different script than the one which pop up into the currently loaded page after posting a comment and that that is the reason they are different. Because clearly the comment is there and in the system and such it's just that the script fail to generate an accurate link to it.

I can of course not tell WHY for sure but it's clear that the AJAX m*gic which try to show that the comment has been submitted and are in the system fails somehow as far as creating the link goes.
(lol, you consider the word m*gic spam? Why? Hasbro / previous Wizards of the Coast were so protective then don't allow the word to be used in general? It's offending to those who don't believe in m*gic?)

TL;DR so I don't get even more questions about the same thing rather than just trying it out yourself:

1) Post a comment to an article.
2) Check the link on the post under the comments form, it will have 0 as article number and no article title in it.
3) Reload the webpage and find your comment.
4) Now the link will be correct with an article number and an article title in it.

The link in 2 won't lead to anything useful, the link in 4 will work.

I assume the reason you haven't noticed this before is that if one visit any link while reading the page they will be of the kind of 4 and work just fine. But for entering the contests if one just post a comment and then immediately copy the link from 2 it will be a faulty one which won't link to the comment.

Thanks for clarifying! It appears you're right. We've never run a series of giveaways using the Gleam.io platform so apologies for the confusion.

I did find a quick work around for you, one which I think you may have mentioned before. After submitting your comment, reload the page, find your comment, and copy the link. I just tested this process out and the link was correctly populated.

I also noticed your Window's Context Menu is in Swedish. The AnandTech 20th Anniversary Giveaways are only available for US residents. I don't want to imply that you are not a US Resident, but I just wanted to double check and make sure you were aware of this requirement.

Gleam.IO doesn't affect your comment board, but yeah I assume giving a link to the forum profile and to the comment without mentioning the name of them is enough, but I guess it should be formulated like such, like:
"Please provide a link to your ... community profile" or whatever you call it and
"Please provide a link to your comment under the article" (then again as long as it work as it do now lots of people would likely provide faulty links, alternatively you could of course had asked for the user-name for both of them, I read the first one as a link to the profile may be enough whereas I read the later one as asking for both a link to the comment and a username, you may want to look into that in case you rely on the answer being one or the other because that may also lead to a bunch of genuine honest human replies which you may possibly take as faulty ones if the validity is checked automatically rather than manually by a human after the raffle/drafting has been done. (Maybe taxation is different for giving things away to US citizens / residents vs those who aren't too.)

It does work with a reload or change of which page among the comments as I've already stated but the preview of course should work too. I guess. Especially now when people will want to copy the link immediately.

No, I tried to find any limits in regard to region / who could claim / get any prizes but couldn't find any so I assumed it was open globally and hence have been filling in anyway. But thanks for telling me since that saves me some time then I guess :)
I'm not a libtard and if I lived in the US I would likely had understood your intentions with the comment without being offended by it :)
Neither regional exclusivity or possibly informing immigrants that if they aren't living in the US they aren't eligible for a prize are offensive for me. :). Though of course I too would had appreciated if I could had won things too! But there's always the trouble with shipping cost and paying VAT for both product and shipping cost and in the case of a computer case and such the shipping costs are massive.

Anyway thank you for the reply and hope you can find someone who can fix the comment section so the link become correct even in the "no-refresh" confirmation =P
