I studied CS, but ended up working in Human Resources. Been doing it for 10+ years. Sometimes I wonder if I should have worked in the IT field.

high school ---> undergrad (pre-med) ---> chiropractic school ---> chiropractor ---> air force? ---> osteopathic school? ---> military doctor?

(?) = potential future

How was it going from EE to accounting? I'm looking for a career change (hate IT) and have often thought about accounting.

Wasn't bad or long at all. I had to do some pre-req acct classes at a community college during the summer, then began the fall semester at my local university as a full time student. I finished the MS program in 1.5 yrs and immediately began working for a mid-level local accounting firm. I completed my CPA exam and got licensed after about 1.5 years working for the firm. So all in all, it took me about 3 years to get my MS degree, find a job in public acct, and get my CPA license.

Congrats on breaking into public as an older guy. Most people I know who started public as a second career or later in life weren't able to keep up with the pace or stand being bossed around by 27 year olds.

HS->College (CS Major) -> Switch to English program -> BA English -> College (BS Game Programming) -> Technical Artist -> Software Engineer.

HS -> College (BS Biology, BS Psychology) -> Pharmacy school (Pharm D) -> soul sucking career I hate x 9 yrs -> flight school -> Corporate Pilot (and finally happy)

HS -> BSEE -> HW Design Engineer -> MSEE -> Senior HW Design Engineer -> Very Senior HW Design Engineer. :awe:

School-high --> BASc. Civil Eng. --> Clerical temp jobs --> Civil Tech job --> MEng. part-time Civil --> Back to Tech job --> FMLing daily

Main problem is I don't really like what I do, but after thinking long and hard, almost quitting, the pastures don't seem that much greener elsewhere. So, I'm working and trying to figure things out.

HS>US Army>University - Accounting Degree>Big 4>Top 15>CPA>Director IA

Id rather be doing:
Brewmaster at micro-brewery
Dolphin Trainer - SeaWorld
Cultural Anthropologist living with some tribe taking notes

I'd like to do that too. You could always re-enlist, go special forces, and teach tribes to do your dirty work... 😉

HS -> BS Electrical Engineering -> Mfg Engineer -> MS Acct -> Public Accountant -> CPA

You can be an accountant with only a master's? Not to mention get into a master's of accounting program with only some community college courses? Damn. I have thought of going back to do a bachelor's in accounting, but it's about $13k/year for 4 years -- time and money are HUGE deterents. In retrospect, I think I'd have been much happier if I went the accounting route from the start.

Most states don't even need a masters. All you need is the credit hours and prerequisite accounting courses. Doesn't matter where you do it and I know some people that did it all online or at a community college.

Finding a public accounting job, on the other hand, is a bit more difficult.

HS (1997-2001) -> BA in Philosophy (2001-2005) -> Military (2005-current)

Military is currently sending me to get an MA in Philosophy so I can teach at USMA.

HS -> University -> Depression/Insomnia/Drinking -> BS - Telecommunications (Dec 2013)-> IT Intern @ a Fortune 500 Co. (May 2013) -> Hopefully, a career

If not, I could always become an AT troll.

In High School I started out trying out for the vocal music program ---> first semester of college was a History major --> next semester Sociology --> settled with Psychology ---> added a History minor in my last year.

Now I'm graduating at the end of this week. Hope to start volunteering at some psych based clinic and either continue onto get my master's or land a decent psych related job that requires only a BA.

Everything I did during my school years [junior high, high school] indicated that I should've had a career in programming. However, due to interests in modifying cars and chasing girls - my path took a huge detour until recently.

Short version [I grew up in the era of Apple ][, Ti994a, c64, etc]:

HS [self taught BASIC/Pascal - made a few games but never saw the light of day. Tried to learn assembly language but gave up] -> ITT tech for Auto Mechanic [I had a choice between DeVry CIS or ITT - I chose ITT as I was more interested in cars and chasing girls at the time] -> USAF [nuke weapons technician] -> DeVry night school Associates in Electroncis -> current employer the past 17 years [started out in mfg, moved to mfg engineer, and currenlty field service engineer]. During that time, obtained [online] BSIT degree which has zero use for my current job.

Currently learning python and refreshing C/Javascript/CSS/etc with the thought of getting into web development on the side and/or full time down the road.

Home School *17 years old* --> GameStop --> some editing classes at community college --> Video Editor --> GameStop --> Vet Tech Asst --> some vet school --> Best Buy (Geek Squad) --> I.T grunt at local software company --> some university --> better paid I.T grunt at same company --> Field Engineer (Sysad who traveled) --> Pseudo Project Manager *27 years old*.

I never knew what I wanted to do with my life, but now I do so I'm going back to school at the start of 2013.

high school -> comp sci major undergrad -> changed major to biology -> BS in biology -> dental school -> oral maxillofacial surgery residency
