Your car & your finances/budget Poll

Just curious...

Ours are paid for, but I saw a 2 Corvettes @ once yesterday, told my wife it was a sign that I should have one😉

Leased my 2004 SRT-4 in May... $500/month for the car, and I have 3 years left on it...

Reason I leased a car like this, is beacuse in 3 years I dont want this car... Going to have a family, etc... I dont want to deal with getting rid of a sports car... I can just hand over the keys and say "Thank you very much" ... No one will want to purchase an SRT-4 after it's been used for 3 years... we all know how they're "used" hahahaha 🙂

1997 I30.... not paid for (just bought it in March). I owe about $5000 on it. I've made 9 payments on a 48 month loan, so 39 months left.

EDIT: Car payment is 194 / month btw.

$500/mo. LEASE??? :Q

Ouch.

I'm about to refi my car to lower the terms by a year and get a better interest rate.

For $300 a month on a lease, I have the best bang for the buck. Nothing like driving a German built $35,000 coupe, with all the bells and whistles, at American prices. I drive a Chrysler Crossfire.

My saturn is paid for, I did pay a 3 year loan on it ~210/mth. It's been a little more then a year since it's been paid off so I don't rightly remember. I've thought about getting a trade/selling it but I can't turn away from the extra cash that not haveing a car loan gives.

I can... at the end of the three years I have to return the car to "saleable condition". It's not that bad... I have done stuff such as a blow off valve and stuff... I will just take it off when I take it into return...

>> $500/month is Canadian money too remember...

Feelings about your car/transportation
My car defines me
Point A-B transportation
I made a trade off between defining myself & basic transportation based on finances
other

Currently, my wife's Pontiac Vibe was a gift from her paretns when she graduated from college.

I own a truck. Bought it for neccesity and A-B transportation. BIG mistake. Wish I bought a smaller truck or even a car. It's my daily driver but I use it alot for trips to Home Depot. When it's paid off, I'll be very happy. $600/month gone kinda sucks. Got a 3 year, 0.0% interest loan when those were hot. Have 12 months left on the payments.

I love the thing, but $26K on a vehicle simply sucks and is stupid. I'll be keeping it for atleast 7 years though.

I think we will keep both vehicles until we move into our next home. 0-5 years. Might buy a lot, but htey are asking $250K🙁

I'm glad you said that. I've always wanted an Acura TL/Lexus ES330 but I could never imagine paying more than $20k for a new car.

The sweetspot for me seems to be $18,500 for a mid level trim automatic 4 cylinder. Easy on the gas, gets you from point A to B and it's reliable.

97 max paid for, a little under $10k owed on the other. Will be paid off in under three years. I like cars, but I won't stretch my budget for one. They are transportation first, enjoyment second. As I mature I find myself even less tolerant of a car loan and may not bother with them in the future. I find them to be a frivolous, luxury expense.

Slow down, old balls! 😉

When I sold the condo in SF and moved to SC, I paid off all my debts, including my upside down car loan.
Now the thing is worth about $7,000. and I will drive it until the wheels fall off.
<Needs a truck for work and will pay cah for a beater before I get in another loan situation.

93 Dodge Dakota 4x4, 175,000 miles, paid for of course. I am a 25 year old mechanical engineer working in the automotive industry. I love cars, but the bottom line is that this truck keeps running and there is no reason to get rid of a vehicle that still runs OK.

The vehicle that you drive either shows that you are a teenager, someone older than a teenager who is still trying to be a teenager, or an adult.

I'd like you to get crackin' & make me a 1/2 ton diesel pickup, the 3/4 ton stuff is just too big🙁

2000 Altima....78k....I hate this car soo much....It is snowing today. I hope someone plows into my car and totals while it is parked.

I took out a loan on an '01 Mazda Protege ES about 15 months ago.

Although I got a 5 year loan, I only did that because it was the same rate at my credit union as a three or four year loan. The payment in the book is $168, but I always pay at least double that. I've paid up to $900 in one month. I owe about $3,200 on it now, and should have it paid off in 8-10 months.

I see my car as basic transportation that happens to be pretty fun to drive, which is important to me because I enjoy driving, but to me a car is not an extension of self. As you can see, I could have easily made payments on something that was double the price, but I chose not to because a less expensive used Mazda does the exact same thing for me, and leaves money in the bank for more important things.

2000 Mazda Protege with ~$4500 left on it over the next year. It was a tradeoff between a cheap, fuel-efficient car and something big enough for my family of 3. Now we're a family of 4 and that thing is shrinking by the minute.

I figure I'll get it paid off, struggle by with it for an additional 6 moths or so, paying down debt and building a down payment for a new one, then keep this POS as my got-to-work car and get something a bit nicer and roomier for the family vehicle. Maybe a van?

I bought a 1997 Dodge Ram in 2002 for $16k. Not quite worth that much, but it only had 19k miles on it and was pretty loaded.

Current status: ~$4500 left on the loan, should be paid off by next summer, although my loan term runs to August 2006

I also have a beater 1992 Buick LeSabre that I bought off of my grandparents for $1800 ... paid cash.
