Many, many places come to mind. If I were rich I would visit them all and find one or two or maybe even three places to hang out. I like warm climates, so Belize is one place I would check out. Ireland is another. Of course if I was rich enough I'd just buy an island.

If money was no object I would probably say a Yacht on the french Riviera.

Provence, in the South of France. Great food, great wine, great climate.

KT

france was on my 2020 list

i suspect that i will be burning that list this winter just to stay warm enough to survive

Yeah...that wouldn't be bad. IF I ever hit the lotto for big bux...I'd move to Maui...upcountry. Get out of the heat, humidity, and crush of tourists.
Kona is just too much bare rock for my liking.

I think I’d go stir crazy on Maui after about a month.

I see my original answer in 2013 was Aruba or Maui.

I'd still stick with Aruba but if money wasn't as much of an issue, I'd pick Grand Cayman over Aruba because the diving there is awesome.

St. Thomas would be another place, and it's still part of the US.

I don't think I'd want to live in Maui anymore though.

I’ve had a few different plans over the years for within the US .. Northern California, Colorado in the Rockies. But latest is Vermont. Good mix of mountains, good driving roads, reasonable people and very few of them. And only a couple hours from Boston.

In the world, somewhere in Germany I’d say. Beautiful country, language that I’m interested in learning and I always seem to get along with the people really well. Same dark sense of humor 🙂

Maui. Even though jobs are an issue there, there's a lot of remote work these days.

Purbeast, why no longer?

I'd just rather be closer to the east coast than all the way out there. Nothing more than that really. There are too many places in the Caribbean I'd like to be able to get to. At the time I posted I hadn't been to many places that I've now been to.

Although, living there would make getting to a lot of other places I want to go in the long run like Thailand, Philippines, Bort Bora, Tahiti, etc. a bit easier.

I'm going to search for my "best place to live." I really liked Jeju-do island when I visited last year so I plan on renting a house and live there for a month next year if coronavirus dies down. Jeju is nice because you still get 4 seasons, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. On many islands, it's just hot all the time. That can get really old. Winter in Jeju is mild but you can get occasional snow.

And I love all the various trees and plants that grow there. In the winter, the island trees are covered with delicious clementines. It's everywhere. Jeju reminds me lot of Maui but prettier and with much better and cheaper food. And Jeju would make a good base for occasional quick getaway weekend trips to Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, mainland South Korea, Indonesia, etc. Flight to Seoul is less than an hour and less than $100 roundtrip so if you ever get stir crazy, it's simple to escape to mainland.

my 2019 trip to Jeju
