Your "best place to live"

If you could move to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? If it's where you're currently at, that's fine - just state why as well.
 
Provence, in the South of France. Great food, great wine, great climate.

Australia. Nice beaches. Warm, tropical weather (mostly). Seems most like the US but with a better quality of life (from what I've read/heard)
 
World, I couldn't say, as I haven't had too much time in other countries to fairly evaluate living there. In the US, I'd probably go with Austin, TX. The climate is moderate enough (and I grew up in a hotter, more humid part of TX, so the summers are mild to me), the cost of living is low, and the local scenes are decent (if you ignore all the yuppies, which have probably turned into hipsters in the 7 or 8 years sine I was there).

If money were no object, I'd probably end up in the Bay Area, but at that point, it might just be a "home base" and I'd have places all over the world.
 
I don't know exactly where it would be. But in the mountains with a nice private lake and acreage. That is my dream location.

Someplace just outside the suburbs of Portland where I could have a bit of land that is outside city limits.
 
I would love to live near or on a very nice beach with warm, clear waters. I don't know what the ideal place would be to me, but I love the beach. I think maybe near a small city would be ideal, maybe outside the city limits.

So it would likely be the Georgia, Florida, a Caribbean island, or Australia. At least I think the water is warm near north Australia.
 
San Diego but with like 1/10th of the people there. So, fairy tale land.

edit: I retract this statement. somewhere in the caribbean due to the warm water. Barbados.

That's like saying "The US". Australia is massive. There is a wide range of climates, lifestyles, etc..., just like there is in the US.
 
I'd move to Northern California if I had to stay in the US. If I was single without kids, I'd retool and get into a research field that would take me all over the world. If I've learned anything, it's that living my life confined to about 50 square miles is FUCKING BALLS.
 
I am thinking my best place to live would be on a cruise ship that wanders the carribean. But it might change tomorrow.

I grew up there and I've always wanted to go back, but work, family, and friends more or less keep me bound to the Mid-Atlantic.
 
I like Portland well enough, but if money were no object, I might opt for something in the Bay Area. The biggest problem with California is the stereotypical Californians who are so smug and self-possessed that you just want to beat them with a starving child so they shut up about how bad gluten is for you, and those people seem to congregate around LA moreso than the Bay Area. Honestly, if money were no object, I'd probably get a reasonably cheap house in Portland and then travel the world for a year to see if I found somewhere I liked better. So far I haven't found anywhere perfect; all the places with nice weather seem to have terrible people, and for some reason all the nice people end up in places where the weather makes you suicidal half the year. What's up with that?
 
I'm rather fond of San Diego.

There are other places I'd probably be happy to live though. Most of them would be in southern Europe on the Mediterranean.
 
Anywhere in the world? Would I be allowed the same amount of space and freedom that I currently enjoy? Would I continue to have the same buying power with expendable income?

One big problem.

Cost of living.

Everything (well, almost) in Oz are more expensive than US. Food, vehicle, housing, clothes, drinks, and so on.

The only thing I think it is lower in the US is health care.

Dream/perfect place? Hard to say for me. Touch choice.

That is a pretty beautiful place...Except I can't stand southern french wine! Beaujolais is fucking disgusting, tastes like piss.

I was the only one out of 6 people that hated it lol, but good lord it was charming and everything else is perfect.
