A friend of mine wants to get a digital camera. He asked if he should just get a digital video camera because he could get movies and still shots or just go with a digital camera? How much can you get on a digi video camera anyways? Any advice (still or video, brand, etc) would be appreciated. He needs one for his business, he owns a kennel and breeds/trains hunting dogs. Thanks!

I would advise getting a Digital Video Camera to take still photos with. The resolution is low. You can get Sony DV Cameras that are 1.5MP but they are found on the higher end consumer models. Prices are in £ as I'm in England have no clue what they are like in the states. About £1200+ for a DV camera with 1.5MP on it.

If he wants still photos get a still photo digital camera. If he wants Video then get a DV Camera.......

He wants to use it for taking pictures of new puppies, parents, training sessions etc. He would also use it for vacations etc. I know that a still camera would work nice. Can you take as high quality still images off of a video camera? He is just curious on the best way to spend his money on a camera, when he doesnt know for sure what he wants.

Although the two technologies are converging, reviews on the web indicate that they're not quite there yet.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to mainly take stills and occasional low quality video, go with a digicam.

If you want high quality video and an occasional low quality still, go with a DV camcorder.

If you want high quality stills and high quality videos, you're looking at two pieces of equipment.

I base these statements on research I've been doing as I've been looking to purchase both items.
