the RIAA doesn't "make music" they are pimps. I would buy songs off iTunes if even 20 cents of it went to the artist. It's amazing how a few companys that just have deep pockets can bully everyone around. Sorry, but I think "artists" deserve more money then the labels. It's a lot easier for a label to front a ton of cash so an artist can make a cd. Then it is for the artist to write the songs, produce and record them.

damn RIAA crooks.

Yeah, the artists don't make any money off their music. They're all living out of their cars.

The artists sign contracts with the labels - if they don't agree to the terms of the contract they're offered (including compensation), they are free to go to another label - an independent label even - and see if they can get a better deal. No one is holding a gun to their heads. I suspect they sign with the big labels because that gives them a better chance of making it big - in other words, they decide that it is to their financial advantage to sign with a big label, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

It's also to the artists' advantage for their labels to protect their interests by trying to prevent piracy.

the labels are way too greedy, RIAA takes an unfair amount of money. If you think an artist only deserves a quarter (if even that) on every album they sell, anyone who finds that fair should go work for the RIAA. And a ton of artists sign contracts and still get screwed.

Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full" they haven't seen a DIME from this album since it came out almost 15 years ago. Is this fair? Russel Simmons said they should be owned over 10 million dollars by today. They'll never see a dime. I don't have pity for labels who blame Napster for their dwendling funds. I feel so bad these Exec's won't be able to buy that 3rd Summer home in Belize. As for making up for "failed" artists. They generally put very little into a artist who isn't big named. So a 10k loss, even a 100k on some garage band Interscore signed, is probably made up for by the 100 million Eminem made them, no? I want to see artists get a fair cut, pimping is illegal in every state, but the RIAA is the biggest pimp of them all.

hmmm...I wonder if there is a law against Pimping? Could they be charged with that for what they do to music?
