Anyone planning on getting 4k monitors soon? Whats your budget and are you eyeing any specific models at this point in time? What GPU's are you planning on running with them? Do you think current gen cards and the current state of 4k gaming make it an opportune time? Or are you waiting for things to settle (prices) and new gen vidcards to arrive next year that are more capable of running at that res?

No. Only going to get an IPS G-Sync 1440p or 1600p when they become available. I have no desire for 4k. Too expensive. Maybe in the next five years, possibly three...but no way no how in the next year.

I'm hoping to, although it's a long shot since I'm not dropping $3k on one.

I hope a "good enough" for a first 4k screen is dropped from seiki with the basic 60 Hz and decent specs, although I am not concerned that they match the better low resolution monitors.

Maybe if a decent one hits $1500, but that isnt going to happen anytime soon. By the time that happens I'm sure I'll be in the market for new video cards.

No plans for 4k for probably 5 years or more myself. 1080p and 1440p are good enough for now.

Probably not in 2014, unless the right deal comes along. Would also need another video upgrade for it. As powerful as the 290X is, a single one isn't going to handle every game with the details I want.

I have no plan to move to 4k until a single video card and give me 60fps on AAA title games.

low persistence is where its at for me, 4K way too demanding a resolution anyway, no way I can see myself doing more than 1440p120 & low persistence, although seems more likely to be 1080p for a while now

I have Eyefinity so I don't see myself going to 4k anytime soon. I just really love the screen space I get from three monitors. Going 4k would be going backwards in FOV and I wouldn't have as much desktop space to work with outside of games. As I am a student it is useful to have multiple browser windows open as well as a compiler or a word document without having to alt-tab constantly.

Going forward I could see myself going Eyefinty with 4k or 1440p monitors as long as they are not much bigger than the monitors I have now. It would just get too hard to look at the side monitors if I used 3 x 27" displays for example or 3 x 32" displays in the case of 4k.

I'd like 4k but it's impractical price and performance make it an unlikely way forward for a while for me. If price wasn't an issue, the low refresh rate would be.

There are $700 39" 4k monitors atm, however they come with a mere 30 Hz refresh rate.

if one of those drops to ~400 bucks, or they make that one do 60 or more at 700, I'd be very interested

I have a 27" 1440p that does 96hz(havent tried higher yet) and another thats stuck at 60, and a 23"1080p

I would drop the 1080p and the 60hz 1440p screen for a 39" 4K display at 30hz since its just for desktop space at that point, but not for 700 bucks

It's probably going to be at least 2 years until we have more affordable 4K monitors, and graphics card with enough grunt to push them without compromising the settings too much.

They've been hitting $550 a couple time I guess, which is shocking since the next bump up seems to be $3k.

I need the screen real estate for productivity. Moar pixels!

what exactly does "low persistence" mean in this context? I heard Carmack talking about it before too but was not really paying attention.

When a 4k hits that is either 60hz or under $1000, I might think about it. If one does 120hz and is $1.5k, I'd be in as well.

If I could get 4 17" 1080p 120hz IPS screens, I'd make my own 4k! =3

No. Would need at least a native 60Hz 37 inch 4K monitor for $1,500 to consider upgrading. Most likely I will wait until it hits $1,000 and GPUs get even faster (around 2016-2017 Volta / Volta refresh time frame).

What GPU's are you planning on running with them? Do you think current gen cards and the current state of 4k gaming make it an opportune time? Or are you waiting for things to settle (prices) and new gen vidcards to arrive next year that are more capable of running at that res?

I will not jump on 1st of 2nd generation 4K monitors. I also want prices to settle so that I don't have to "downgrade" to a smaller size 4K monitor. Ideally I want a 37 inch one as I am very used to that size now.

I also expect next generation games to increase graphical demands significantly over the next 24-36 months. I am thinking 2016 for Volta SLI is the earliest I would consider getting a 4K monitor unless prices fell significantly / or my current Westinghouse died on me.

I already returned a PQ321 I purchased several months ago. 4K is a joke on current hardware unless you enjoy 10fps minimums or want to play on medium/low settings.

This is not going to change on 20nm cards either, even 3 of those will not get you to full settings in the games available today at good frames. Wake me up in 5 years and maybe we'll have the hardware for it.

I'm not even considering 4k. No native gaming content, too high of prices, low refresh rates. There literally isn't even a single reason to consider 4k for what I want from a monitor.

I'd be all about a 1440p or 1600p G-Sync or plain 120hz monitor though. That's honestly the next big thing, cards right now can handle (in SLI/CF) those resolutions at 120 fps and that's exciting. I just bought a QNIX 27" IPS to OC to 120hz but I'd sure like a gloss or semi-gloss option from a major US brand that natively does 120hz (or G-Sync). I'd gladly pay $800-1000 for that...come on Asus, Samsung, BenQ...let's go!
