Heh, when I get my new system, I'll run the benchmark. I'm pretty sure it will suck, even if I get a geforce 3. Damn windows 2000 and it's directx...for god's sake, use opengl....

my ath 950 can't even run 3dmark2001...and that system never crashes.

new machine:
athlon-C 1.33 Ghz
Asus A7M266
256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
the oldest, lowest-quality geforce 2 gts ever, the creative annihilator 2.

<< Now do I have to worry about temp. since my current temp is at 118 (10 min after running the test)? I have AMD's retail HSF, should I get a better HSF? >>

Well if its °F [hope not]I donno how is ur computer still running..
And °C its an acceptable temp.. but still better cooling would be welcome and even.. you could overclock

Btw.. we usually say CPU's temp in Celcius.. 😛

And predatory..

<< my score is around
980ish at default
>>

This is obivious you didn't install via's 4-in-1 drivers..
Why am I so sure?.. Well.. with my rig.. I had 900-something score.. and then installed via's 4-in-1 to bench 3000+ score.. 😛

1588 This looks low to me. Any idea on tweeking my rig to up the score?

IN RESPONSE TO MINUTEMAN AND TO CORRECT DOUGFRIPPON:

you said the cpu is at 118 degrees. this is obviously fahrenheit (and that's a good thing), and it equals 48 degrees celcius. if it were 118 degrees celcius (244 fahrenheit) it would have ceased to function before it got through the POST. 48 celcius is well within spec but is getting a bit toasty and definately too high to think about overclocking (not to mention you got that temp after only 10 minutes of load). you should get a better hsf (like an fop or a taisol) and a case with good airflow (i don't remember if you mentioned what case you have).

anyway, on the topic of the thread, i can't complain...i get a score of:
3100
with the system in the link at the bottom

3274

SiliconVandal,

A score of 4863 SEEMS a bit high to me.

DARRIN is running:
CPU: AMD 1.2 gig Tbird 1200MHz @ 1500MHz
Motherboard: Asus A7V133
Memory: 256 MB of Mushkin Rev 3 PC133
Video Card: Elsa Gladiac Ultra (Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 40.0 GB @ 7200 RPMS

and his score was 4625!

Do you have a screenshot of that score? What color depth and resolution are you running? Do you have some secret we should know about?

4178 is currently the highest public Radeon. 4863 im sure is probably a 3DMark2000 score, which kinda low for your rig.

See My system rig for specs.

I get 10573 in 3D Mark 2K, and 4691 in 3D Mark 2K

1.5GHz TBird, 512MB DDR RAM, A7M266, etc...

Nah... GF3 is too slow 😉 I'm waiting for a GF3 Ultra 😛

Seriously though, I spent a lot on this PC [too much according to my missus], and I'm quite satisfied with the performance so far. I could probably get another 200 points out of 3D Mark 2001 if I used the 10.xx or 11.xx drivers, but there are no Dx8 games out there at the moment, and 7.58 works best in Dx7 and OpenGL.

The best bit of my PC is the Delta 7K fan. That keeps everyone away so I can use the PC all the time! The MC462 will be an even better deterrent! 🙂
