your 13 year old wants a cel phone for christmas

a friend of mine has 2 daughters, 12 and 14, they both have cell phones. most of the kids at my church that age all have cell phones.

if they understand what it is and how to use it responsibly i don't see why not.

NO, of course not. The last thing a 13 year old needs to learn is that life is all about fancy toys.

No cellphone until 16, or hopefully never.

Granted, I do hate the bloody things 😛

I would say no and if you do go prepaid or one of those unlimited cricket phones (if avail in your area) do not put them on a real plan because thier liable to get the phone stolen/run up a huge bill

Depends if I thought my daughter was responsible enough when she reaches 13; hopefully, with good parenting she will be.

i would say yes BUT only one of those where she gets time by the minute not so many minutes per month. I'm talking a tracfone or virgin mobile, etc.
That way its a lesson in time management, responsibility, with a fairly minimal investment on your part. Also when she runs out of minutes you can require some sort of hoursework, good grades, etc to earn her minutes.
