You did good!

I thought I'd point out the rebate fiasco before you even started to hassle with it. ;)

Agreed. With 12Gb memory, W7 set my page file to 12Gb- or about 11.5to 12Gb too high.

It set the page file in GBs?

With 6GBs of RAM my W7 is recommending a 9201MB page file with 6134MB currenty allocated.

I've played with manual settings many times and never noticed a difference.

i think this post is not directed solely at SSD users, thus, on a normal hard drive where you have copious amounts of space, the pagefile, for MOST people, doesnt really need to be fooled with. SSD is another story as space is limited. also remember, ssd users are nowhere near the "vast majority." But I will be adjusting it :)

When I had 4GB RAM on my current system, I had set the pagefile to a minimum size of 250MB and maximum of 4GB. I would check from time to time, and the pagefile.sys never grew larger than 250MB, so when I upped my RAM to 8GB, I lowered the minimum size to 128MB (thinking that if I never used the pagefile with 4GB, the chances of using it are even less with 8GB RAM), and guess what, I've yet to see pagefile.sys go above 128MB.

I take that all back. I must have hit the wrong button or something, and wasn't looking at the C300. Obviously, the C300 does very well against the Intel, and even gives the Vertex 2 a strong run for the money. The ONLY place it shows significant weakness in AT's bench is in 4k random writes, and in eappleto's AT link, even that outstrips the others. I don't know how the two AT tests can be reconciled.

why do you go on like any of this is noticeable on a day to day basis by avg users? best $/GB ratio wins, end of story. They're all latest gen drives.

Just beware OP if u're using an AMD chipset u're better off going w/ the sandforce controllers as they have their own internal garbage collection utility, cause AMD drivers dont support TRIM, which the C300 relies on for garbage collection.
