1. 10 yr old marriage meant the 30 yr old man slept with her already?

2. Why the FUCK would you want to? At least wait til she's 16 or something.

agreed, but in hindsight her parents realized they shouldn't have caved to societal pressures.

Not all of the Islamic world practices this, but I agree with you that IMO, Sharia Law as literally practiced is morally repugnant.

She was able to escape the situation via legal means within that culture, and it appears that her family supported her in her decision.
 
This shit would never happen if there are no religions. Saying it's part of their society and culture is bullshit.

If that is accepted in that culture, and the husband promised to not do anything until she was 20 - how is that any fault of the parents?

I'd say it's all on the husband.

Of course - when she would be 20 he'd be over twice her age.

The father should have known better. He did not really expect that the guy would keep his hands off her for 10 years.

Really. I doubt that promise is ever kept in these situations.
 
From what I understand after reading the article, her parents had the expectation that this type of thing would not happen until she was 20.
 
The ignorance of ATOT never ceases to amaze me. You people know we have people who do things like that here in the United States, right? Are we all animals too?
