Sometimes I think it might be better if the press wasn't involved with wars at all.
So the fascists win.
I don't think you understand how powerful the proverbial pen is.
It's hard to paint a pretty picture in any war zone. If you have media reporting on a war with a biased opinion you have a problem.
Take a look at at this line from the journalist creed written by
Walter Williams in 1906.
"I believe that suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible."
How about this one.
I believe that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of readers; that a single standard of helpful truth and cleanness should prevail for all; that supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public ser vice.
Do you not think we, the American people, even the world, would be better off not hearing some of the negatives from the war in Iraq whether true or not? Does going over the war with a fine tooth comb in the view of the public in the best interests of the public?
I'm sorry if this comes off P&N.. Which it is I suppose. However it is rarely that I take the time to document a thought such as this. Also ironwing, I'm not trying to attack you in any sort of way. I'm just feel that polictics and the media have been pushed or pulled too close together.
