Hey, I am 15 years old and know a lot about computers in general, programming and hardware. I am lucky because my dad is founder of a few software companies and was able to get a job writing Java. Not everyone is as lucky, and there should be like an organization for young adults in the tech field...Any ideas? Maybe a site should be put up. Or groups to do things like Anand since the web is so big now, and wasn't as massive when he started. Email me if you would like at taras@ivc.com

Yeah I had a similar idea recently when dealing with a local temp agency. She said they "didn't get many of them" when I asked her about jobs like a Tech Support/Help Desk guy. THere are lots of young techs, somthing like a tech-temp agency could do quite well.

Lotsa replies...Most people say a online organization...with 3 parts:members involving people from school technical programs; an article area; and a help type area. Email and post your ideas. I welcome anyone that wants to help start something like that...it is truly a pretty original site!

I have been apart of the National Society of Black Engineers (www.nsbe.org) since my undergrad days. This group as well as many. many others tend to have similar initiatives run from their student chapters and the surrounding community. I'd swing by a local college campus if possible and look for something like this.

Hey all...plenty of posts and like 15 emails! whew! Looks like about everyone likes the idea. It seems people want an online organization with membership. Teens can talk and come up with cool ideas like this one. Think...Anand started young, just like us! An article site talking about programming, hardware and software, along with a place to talk to interested people needing help. The major idea would be to get lots of members and get power to talk to schools that teach avanced computer technology or programming and let students that complete the course and are still interested join. This could be a way to start something like Anand did? Or a way to connect people in finding jobs since it is hard when employers don't like teens doing their advanced stuff mostly. Plainly a site for people like us, on Anandtech and other tech sites. Please email me and post if you have any comments, ideas, or would like to get involved.

I remember an organization called "GTE Explorers" and it was a type of branch from Boy Scouts of America. I was a part of that group for a short time and in that time we created web pages and did things with computers. We also took a tour to see job sites where technology was incorporated.

Too bad there was nothing with hardware in there. Oh well. It is a good idea so far. Just a nice website with success stories, FAQs, tips and trades, guides, job searches, and a discussion page too. It would be interesting.

Lemme in! I was this close to a temp/intern job, but my dad's confirmation came too late. :(

Um, this may be a stupid question, but if this is an organization for just young adults, at what point would the members get kicked out? That would kind of suck wouldn't it? To get kicked out of the club once you get too old.

<< but if this is an organization for just young adults, at what point would the members get kicked out? >>

They could become the mentors or advisors as the Explorers like to call them. They basically guide and encourage. Also help out when ever they can for the benefit of the young people.

there are older people that are interested in this stuff...or started late...all welcome... the idea is just starting around young people because that would seem like the majority...but I could be wrong.

Hey guys...funny how if like for 10-15 minutes nobody posts a thread is like lost forever at the bottom of the pile and gone? j/k. Anyways...I got lots of responses that one day the post lasted so I wanted to tell those that are interested I have a site kinda going...to get the general idea across and to organize and figure out who is interested. Thanks for your time...
