I'm writing an Email to a local newspapaer that wrote an article saying that AMD's dual core CPUS suck, and how they're double the price than the lower Pentium DCs even though they're only half the speed (GHZ) of equilivant intel cpus.I'm looking for Pentium D prices and can't find them in the forums and the site, because the newspaper said how cheap they were.

There have been numerous discussions concerning the dual core processors in the CPU/Processors category. Read through the last three to four weeks of discussion there and you will find the answers you seek.

How nice that someone so uninformed would bash AMD. I suppose this is why so many people still pay more for less with Intel systems.

AMD CPUs have been beating "faster" Intel CPUs for quite some time in many (but not all) situations. It's truly ignorant of you to think that the GHz rating means much of anything. The only thing higher GHz ratings seem to do for Intel CPUs is cause them to make a whole lot more heat.

Why would you write about something you don't understand?

My other post probably made it look like I bashed AMD. sry, the newspaper did, called the x2s "lower speed double price".

LOL!

It looks like you've used a different order of operations.

You meant:
I'm writing an Email (to a local newspapaer that bashed AMD's dual core CPUs).

I saw:
I wrote an Email (to a local newspaper) that bashed AMD's dual core CPUs.

Anyway, here's some good info:

AMD's Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 Strikes Hard
[/i]
If your applications benefit from dual core processors - see our benchmarks - the Athlon 64 X2 is superior to the Pentium D 840 in a vast majority of our benchmarks. In addition, it is not any slower than its single core counterpart Athlon 64 4000+. Please note that we used a processor based on the old Clawhammer core, which explains the performance handicap when compared to the X2. The latest San Diego core will perform exactly as the X2.

When looking at the Intel lineup, the dual core Pentium D stops at 3.2 GHz, with the single core chips going all the way up to 3.8 GHz (Pentium 4 570). As a result, the Intel dual core chips will be somewhat slower under single-threaded environments if you consider replacing your system at an early point.

...the Pentium D system manages to burn over 200 watts as soon as it's turned on, even when it isn't doing anything. It even exceeds 310 W when working and 350+ W with the graphics card employed! AMD proves that this is not necessary at all: a range of 125 to 190 Watts is much more acceptable (235 counting the graphics card). And that is without Cool & Quiet even enabled.

Here's the bottom line. If we had to recommend a single core processor, the choice would depend greatly on the type of applications in use. But in the dual core arena, though, there is not much that speaks for Intel: go with the Athlon 64 X2.

I can't seem to find any good pricing info, either.

KoolDrew. you don't know half of it.
They wrote that AMD and Intel started having problems when their chips were running close to/at 4 ghz speed, and because of heating problems they changed their cpus to DC, and we all know that AMDs have 5 ghz cpus  and heating  problems.

Check ZZF, they have the 820 for $310, didn;t check the rest.
