I would keep my job and keep it a secret from anyone buy my wife. Kids/Family wouldn't find out until everything is planned out.

I would def have some fun at work, but in the end I would still keep it. No body at work would know....

I love the work that I do but the money would allow me much greater opportunities to explore. I'd like to say I'd keep my job at least until I figure out what those are. Would probably be a while.

for the short term, i'd definitely keep working. probably reduce my hours to 3 or 4 days a week. the advantage of not having a steady job would be the ability to travel whenever, wherever. BUT, with a small child, I think its important to have roots, stable home life for schooling and friends and such. So that lifestyle will have to wait.

I would buy a nicer house, send my kid to the best private schools, and buy some neat toys for myself. Other than that, most of the money would be invested.

I like the people I work with. So, I would give the 2 weeks notice and make sure the transition works out well. They are my friends, and I would ensure they aren't left in the lurch.

So, $10million.... not much, but, it will do just fine.

1) Buy / build an apartment building. A six 2 bedroom (2 apartments per floor), near major transportation. The rent alone (~ $2,000 to $2,500) would be a really nice source of income for generations to come,.. and I would most likely live in one of the apartments.

2) Travel; Japan, Australia, Europe (Western / Eastern) and Netherlands area (summer).

3) Open a comic book / video game store. A huge warehouse like store, stocked with tons of video games and comic books. Security up the wazoo. And, a coffee/cafe shop on the side - no entry in the cafe with comics from the store, unless you have a receipt,.. which will give you 50% off your first 2 beverages and up to 5 baked good!

I think after all of that, I should have about $5 million left over. And, the businesses should be pouring in some nice scratch.

I'd still keep working, but take unpaid leave whenever the hell I felt like it.
That and I wouldn't give a flying Dutchman about quarterly / annual performance reviews, maybe just enough to stay employed.

After spending about $1M of the winnings on a new house, cars, etc. I'd then invest the remaining $9M and live off the interest for the rest of my life. Even a measly 3% return would give me $270,000 per year to live on.

No way I'd continue working.

On second thought I would perform volunteer work in Africa. I would help them out and dedicate my life to them. I don't have millions so I can't do this now.

🙁

10 million and I'd really have to do the math, especially if we're talking about supporting myself along with a family.

I don't think I'd handle unemployment well at all, regardless of my bank account, but I could see taking a cushy job that doesn't pay a lot, like teaching at a private school.

I would still work but I would at least go down to 3 days a week. At least thats what I think I would do as long as it wouldn't get in the way of our traveling

I woukd stay and be an even bigger ass than I am now :whiste:
Boss: "I need you to redo this TPS report"
"No."
Boss: "You better or else!"
"What are you going to do - fire me? Oh no! What will I ever do for money now?"

*Lights a 100 dollar bill and throws it in the bosses face*

And fix all the stuff around the house that is pending 😛

Fix? Just buy a new house!

At $10 million or above in net winnings, I'd quit within minutes of receiving the check. If it were $5 million or less, I'd work a few more years and let the winnings grow. $5 million to $10 million is a bit of a gray area for me.

This.

I actually really enjoy my job, but $10 million is enough for me to take the pain of never going again.

I would probably end up buying a bar or something and working there every so often. I really like being social, so that would be the perfect venue I think.

Id burn up all my leave then probably quit. Then I would go out and get a part time job doing something i love. In the summer something like a park ranger. In the winter ski patrol.

I'd buy a giant camper and travel around to various national parks participating in whatever volunteer activities they offer. After I got back from several months in the south pacific.

People who say they'd keep working are either full of it or are unimaginative drones.

I'd look at re-opening some side businesses which I had to close post-2008. Generally speaking I don't think a lot would change.

idk, I love traveling, but 2-3 weeks and I'm ready to be back home relaxing... and I don't think 10 million would be enough to accomplish my real dream of being a professional student.

plus, at 30, I'd question whether that would actually be enough to support me and a spouse (along with potentially kids) for the next 40-50 years.

I've been unemployed once in my life and I didn't handle it well... I practically went feral, not leaving my bedroom except to eat and shower and otherwise spending all of my time in a cold dark room playing video games.

I probably wouldn't quit. But, would treat my current job more like a volunteer position - I'd put a lot more of the income for that position toward improving the opportunities my students have. The administration would show up to school one day & see my work crew building the annex onto the back of the school outside my classroom. 🙂

I think that's the scariest thing really. That it might not be. Compared then to what every one who would consider themselves 'regular guys' would pull in, and then... D:
