the t-3 is split of an oc-3 line. yes, i moved back in the dorms and my building rarely experiences bandwidth problems, lot's of party people, not much gamers. the thing that sucks is that i have crappy $5 speakers here and a dinky 17" all curvy monitor. it's kinda disgusting cuz i have a 19" Sony FD PerfectFlat Trinitron at home and DTT2500 speakers. i also have a sweet sweet computer chair. the only good thing here is that i have this amazing amount of bandwidth!

now what to do...should i run an ftp or a cs/tfc server? i'll also appreciate any links how on to do either so i can guage which one would be easier.

hmm mmmmmm... . . can you run a drop to my work we host 10 webistes, and 100 users in the office off an isdn, plus that isdn connects us to our other offices, so we see a bit of bog. . . divx is going legit, read about it in red herring

A T3 is a pretty good connection indeed.

I am actually going to be moving to Sacramento, California (for a good reason). A company called Winfirst is currently installing fiber to homes. They are currently rated at 10mpbs (full duplex). I talked to someone at their company and am now going to be getting a full 100mpbs connection to my home.

You may want to reread that last sentence one more time.

Anyhow, I own around 15 machines and I plan on running a couple game servers (TFC, CS, Q3A) when I move in. I'll be sure to post the IP addresses on here as soon as it all happens. I just hope I can stand the Amtrak commute to Santa Clara county each morning. Ugh.

jsm- i too live in sacramento and have been looking for someone to provide a server for my CS clan to occasionally play matches/scrims/practices on.

interested? 😀
if so, icq me @ 42831801
thanks

edit: also, icq me biggie if you want help setting up a cs server

Yea, to the movie star's homes who can afford to pay $10K a month for that kinda bandwidth.

Actually, the person I spoke with from Winfirst told me that their service is going to be comparable to the prices of DSL and cable. It also like VDSL in that it carries phone, video (tv) and a net connection on one cable. I haven't got a price on the 100mpbs specifically, but I am trying to work out a "value added" deal with the company.

I am going to get more information from their VP of business development when I have breakfast with him tomorrow morning.

Seriously - check out their web site. It is kick arse stuff. They will be expanding the Texas, Arizona, Washington and to the Bay Area in California. Roll out for Sacramento is supposed to be in the July time frame.

Curvy monitors are cool, weren't you the one who wrote you like curves on your woman??

What fun is PerfectFlat if you like curves???

Damn...no mention of planning for Tucson...Yet.:|

Gimmie, Gimmie...I'm sick of this measley 640k connection.

I Want FIBER!!

Okay, so I had this meeting with the VP of Business Development for Winfirst. First of all, the meeting was pointless. It was more or less me just watching Powerpoint slides and intaking as much of the data that I could - and there was a lot.

It looks like the connections are going to be 100mbps fiber to each home, but it can upgraded to gig in a moments notice. Could you imagine a gigabit ethernet connection to the net?! Anyhow, it looks like the speed will actually be really fast within Winfirst's network, but, as well all know, what really matters is their speed to the cloud known as the internet. This information, I did not get. 🙁 But, I am sure that it is going to be incredibly fast, though it would be a lot better if they were a tier 1 ISP.
