Gmail has something like 50 million users.
Yahoo! on the other hand has 250 million users and Hotmail has something like 225 million users.

I'm pretty sure GMail has upwards of 175-200,000,000 users.

finally got to me:(
what if you have it linked with one google account, but that is not your main gmail account. Since if you leave gmail open in your browser it defaults to that account it totally messes with youtube if it is not the main linked account. Trying a greasemonkey script for multiple google account access but it in'st working so well, keep getting logged out. Pretty obnoxious of google to swap this for no good reason.

Like I said, they want more GMail users.

That's a damn good reason. Plus, they're both services which they choose to offer you. Don't want it? Don't use it.

That's too complicated?

Ugh, yea...i'm pretty sure many google engineers also use multiple accounts as well, this just makes a mess of it.

If you think google always makes great decisions..think google buzz..

And when people started having issues with Buzz, they did what, exactly?

Oh yeah, they stopped using it. You're free to do the same.

It's a giant pain in the ass if you have multiple accounts with either service.
I used to be able to log in to Gmail with my main Gmail account, and then also be somewhat logged in to Youtube with a Youtube account.

I have 3 Google/Gmail accounts, two with email, one now linked to my Youtube account.
If I want to check my emails on either Gmail email account, then I get signed out of my Youtube account.
Similarly, if I sign in to Youtube, I get signed out of my Gmail account.

Thanks Google. You really made things easier.

You know, you can just click on "skip this for now"; it's an extra click that I don't mind doing.

No, you can't.
You used to be able to, but now it's FORCED. You can't skip it anymore, you MUST link accounts.

Here you go, I did that just now.

Hasn't hit you yet then.
I used to get that, but no longer. I couldn't even view videos while logged in until I had linked my YT account to a Google account.
I'm sure your account will get it soon enough as well.
