Today my Dell Dimension 8200 warranty expires...So Its time to buy another one.

My 8200 is 2GHZ, 768MB RDRAM@400MHZ, Geforce 6600GT

-------------------------Budget 1200$ to 1300$-----------------------------------------------

I want a GAMING machine so Athlon 64 its the key here??

Will 1GB@512MHZ be enough?

X800 XL PCI Express (heard that?s the best under 300$) But what brand

I don?t have an idea of what MOBO to use

PSupply....More then 400W??

HD 80GB will be fine (but hast to be "fast")

DVD Recorder

Mouse

Keyboard

No Floppy

No Monitor

A64 3000+ (i dont know when Venice cores will be here) - but this should overclock well
DFI Ultra-D or MSI NF4
Twinmost 1 gig or Gskill 1 gig on newegg PC3200 - $100 each (use Value VX chips that overclock well with 3.4V - need DFI board or OCZ ram booster for it)
X800XL - any brand (should find ATI or PowerColor for $290)
Tagan 480, Enermax 495, Seasonic S12, OCZ Modstream 450 .....
SATA HDD - get a deal (MIR on 120/160 gigers)
NEC3520A, LG4163
Logitech 510/518?

I was planning to buy a 3500+, is it a bad choice?

Its the 3000+ better for the price?

I know shi* about athlon, I was always a Pentium fan but I see everywhere about Athlon's beatings

Check out the DFI LanParty boards. Excellent A64 boards, and very overclockable. Make sure to get a 939 type. As for a HD, most likely a 74GB Raptor should do the trick for you. 512MB is okay for a gaming system. Only time you really need more is if you are editing large files, such as video editing or even some photo editing. However, since RAM is so cheap nowadays, you can't really go wrong with 1GB. You can get 1GB of Corsair Value Selectl RAM from NewEgg for as little as 90 dollars. However, with the budget you have, I would go for something a little more "performance", such as some CAS2 from OCZ, Corsair or Geil.

Would you care to explain why you think its time to buy another rig just because the warranty expires today?

I dont mean to sound discouraging If you're sticky about such things, then building your own rig may not be the best way forward.
