Until now. But now .. your opinion .. will change.
For the worse.

LTT had the bright idea to talk smack about Hardware Unboxing and Gamers Nexus - it does not go well.

Well, the thing is that I'm not going to watch this video. I don't care about... well, any of the channels involved.

I used to watch some of the LTT videos here and there, but they started losing my interest a few years back.

Steve brings up some pretty good points about the inaccuracies in LTT videos. What they did to Billet Labs was almost unforgiveable IMO.

Sinking a small start up like that becasue you're to lazy to test the product on the correct hardware. Then precede to auction off the prototype even though the company had repeatedly asked for it back. Some shady shit on LTTS part for sure.

It's a bigger problem of marketplace realities: you have to constantly pump out content in order to stay SEO-relevant these days. According to Wikipedia, Linus Tech Tips employs over 100 people:

According to google, Linus is estimated to have a net worth of $85 million dollars & apparently received a $100 million buyout offer:

LTT has multiple channels with over 15 million subscribers total, so they're constantly on the hook to deliver fresh new video content on their feed, which has turned into an issue of quantity over quality. Which normally wouldn't be that big of a deal in the world of online entertainment (ex. 7 gamers on one tower)...except that you're dealing with a bunch of ultra-technical people who delight in accuracy, specs, comparisons, etc., which resulted in a 45-minute call-out video by Gamer's Nexus, which has already generated nearly 2 million views within 24 hours of release.

The hard thing about being publicly called out is that people feel the need to go into self-defense mode instead of fixing it. Admitting our mistakes is hard enough; doing it publicly is even more difficult because then we have to admit that we were wrong & that not only feels bad, but can affect sponsorships, branding, etc. People like Linus & his channel, but the content is starting to have issues, and in the niche world of technology reviews, accuracy, honesty, and transparency are extremely relevant! I study marketing extensively & we've had 3 recent public examples of these types of issues:

1. Scott Adams: After racist-sounding video went viral (which he now calls "obvious hyperbole"). He eventually did a 30-minute justification response on CNN, but not before losing 80% of his income.
2. Kanye West: After making bigoted statements, he lost an estimated $1.5 billion in net worth, losing his billionaire status, which in turn cost Adidas an estimated $1.3 billion in sales.
3. Elon Musk: After publicly making fun of a disabled employee, it came to light that he was potentially on the hook to pay out a $100 million termination contract.

Linus could fix this in five minutes: post a straight-up apology video, admit to the mistakes, and commit to do better. Go fix the Billet Labs situation. The end! Probably won't happen, but one can hope!

I think the hard thing is that eventually you kind of cover all of the basics & then run out of things that aren't bordering on clickbait videos. MKBHD has stayed relevant because he doesn't release a new video every day, but is consistent & has high-quality content: (17+ million subscribers)

The same thing goes for Unbox Therapy: (19+ million subscribers)

They branched out & started doing gadgets, electric cars, etc. in order to stay relevant, which makes sense, because in the world of computers, there's kind of only so many options to discuss for newly-released information (Intel & AMD, NVIDIA & AMD, etc.) before you get all caught up & have to start going on tangents to stay interesting to watch!

GN gave their response to Linus and by extension LMG. Steve's genuine disappoint in Linus' response can be felt. I think Steve expected it to go a different direction but it didn't.

People really out here watching a movie-length video discussing a video about some other videos on YouTube...
Most of the people on this website being above 45-50 are better served taking a pill and having an evening with their spouse if the pill is needed or not depending on one's own vigor. not as you point out wasting time watching this crap. watching a 45 minute deets video and having to stare at that rat's nest of hair.

If you aren't interested in the subject matter then move on. I for one am. I find all of this very interesting. Some of you old timers still reading PC magazines or watching the Computer Chronicles might not.

Just becasue you don't get it doesn't make this any less important.

Ah the monetization beast must be fed or it will come for your first born.

No tech to really report on, so now time to go full Kardashian and just make your drama the monetized content.
GTFO with that nonsense. GN did not monetize their video but here you are claiming they did. I smell a LTT fanboi.

How is this "important" to anyone other than die-hard tech YouTube stans?
And anyone who isn't one of those stans is apparently an old timer. Listen to yourself.

Old timers? how? this is social media beef that none of us care about. ltt made a mistake and can't own up to it. that sucks, it'll tarnish them. It's still not going to encourage me to waste nearly an hour of my time. if I wanted to waste an hour of my time I'd do the morning crossword in the paper in french.

A social media beef? Are you serious? Look at the front page of AnandTech and tell me who has more prominence.....a decade ago you all would have blasted Anand for making mistakes like these. Strike that YOU did blast him for making mistakes like this but now it's OK becasue you're outta the scene.

Old timers gonna old time like they always do......

I don't think Anand was even still doing reviews a decade ago, but I'm not sure I've even read more than 5-6 AnandTech reviews. Yes, AnandTech as a review site has had essentially no prominence in years and years.

That's because we are already here reading his reviews. I, personally, don't feel the need to go trawling the internet to get involved in whatever drama is going on elsewhere.
