You thought Nvidia's cooling solution was overkill?!

LOL crazy asians ... no wonder SARS spread so fast that fan sent it all over the land...and they were to distracted building that heatsink to treat the disease

That is in no way comparable to the famous Nvidia blowdryer unit on the original FX card from nvidia. That Zalman is in fact a heatpipe (note the tubes) and is a fully passive unit(no Fan) that is why it is so large. While very large it is completely silent and gets the job done.

i see a fan on it...

yea amended my post. damn i need bifocal i guess.😱 don't beleive i din't notice that big old fan until i looked at it again.

Since the 9700 Pro can run fanless with a similar heatpipe that monster fan is probably running at a very low RPM and might be a lot quieter than a whiny little 40mm fan. Even sweeter would be thermally controlled, then it would be dead silent except during heavy 3D use.

Ok, the big cooling solution I can understand but how the hell did they manage to get it to be so big and STILL need a fan? Does it arrive in your house in a cardboard box with "Two man lift" printed on the outside?

, sad attempt at humor, so sad I had to comment.

The heatpipe heatsink and the fan are sold seperately but designed so that they work together. The fan actually cool the rest of your cards too, if you need that. The heatsink works fine on its own.

yes, the pic in the link has caption which says ZM80C-HP + ZM-OD1
I am guessing ZM-OD1 is the fan and ZM80C-Hp is the HSF.
Also it can be used for both nvidia and ATI cards, just the pic shown uses 9800.
