You think movie critics are idiots?

There are a good number of individual dipshit reviewers unable to pull their heads out of their asses, but I still think the overall tomato meter is a decent barometer to help me prioritize what to go see.

I usually liked Ebert. I didn't always agree with him, but I appreciated his ability to adjust his expectations to the movie...something you didn't see with other celebrity reviewers. I couldn't trust him for comedies or horror movies though.

Lately, I've been watching the Jeremy Jahns reviews on youtube. He's also capable of enjoying a movie for what it is, doesn't critique a Summer popcorn action flick the same way he would Saving Private Ryan, and "rates" movies based more on whether/how much you'll enjoy it vs some arbitrary numbering/star scheme. I also seem to agree with him quite a lot.

I side with the critics more often than not, and I can usually guess very accurately how well critics will rate a movie after watching it even If I end up liking it more than the critics do.

One thing that irritates me with critics at times is that alot of them are too caught up in their 'sophisticatedness" to just let themselves enjoy a movie that is short of perfect. The National Treasure movies and Dragonheart are good examples of flawed movies that are still very enjoyable in their own way. On the flip side of this, I think Forrest Gump is a highy overrated film. Not bad, but more like slightly better than average.

But we can't expect everything to be on the same caliber as Citizen Kane.

Ugh. Remind me never to take a movie suggestion from you.

Well, then you are just like (or even worst than) the critics; He isnt even in the leading role in this move.

Bet it's another "Reign Over Me." Ugh.

Just watched the "Men, Women, & Children" trailer and I see blatant product placement like every other Adam Sandler movie. No Apple logos on the notebooks, but AshleyMadison.com being front and center is almost like that movie "Lars and the Real Girl" with the RealDoll.com 🙄

Critics like movies that are deep and unique. As someone who watches a ton of movies I can see why. However 'fun' can be different than 'good'. Sometimes I want to see a dumb movie just for the awesome explosions.

I guess you would serve as an example of the type of people I am referring to.

I acknowledge that they are far from perfect, but they aren't awful by any standard. They're certainly nowhere near as bad as Batman and Robin (or whichever one that had Clooney as Batman)

That's what I'm talking about: you are wrong. They are awful by every "standard." The only way to think so is to not HAVE any standards. Watch the RedLetterMedia Plinkett reviews of each one and THEN tell us how you feel.

Those guys know how to enjoy bad movies (see their "Best of the Worst" show).
