I went out for lunch today and decided to bring an iced cappuccino and some donuts for everyone in the office. Totally unexpected and they were all pleased.

I'm glad I could make their day a little better.

A couple people where I worked would bring in food sometimes, cookies, and the such. Very nice. The boss even did it a couple times.

It's a nice gesture. One of the Directors/supervisors use to buy me coffee/chocolate milk when she came in on the weekend and on some weekdays. One time it backfired cause I just finished a large hot chocolate milk before heading out to a restaurant...

Personally, I'm too cheap.

one of my coworkers and I usually buy each other coffee back and forth... sometimes we both do it and end up with 4 coffees :p

I feel bad that I usually don't participate in these kinds of things. I just never think about it, that and I never carry cash.

Coworkers at my office frequently bake (or otherwise prepare) various foods and bring them in for everyone to share. I usually don't partake in that, as I'm afraid of what some of the stuff might be laced with.

When we have part time/temps working long or unusual hours for us, a coworker and I have been known to buy pizza or subs for everyone's lunch or supper.

But don't get me started on the required participation in the birthday parties, where someone goes and buys a cake for everyone in the office to share while we waste hours and hours of time "partying". Three things about that annoy me... everyone in the dept is required to attend the birthday parties, they invoice everyone in the department for the distributed cost of the birthday cake and card, and then waste tremendous amounts of time sitting around. If I liked most of my coworkers and had nothing better to do, then fine. The money they invoice us for isn't the issue, it's the idea that I have to pay when I would MUCH rather not waste my time with the crap.

When I got postal, I'll just injure the ones who were nice to me. I'll still shoot you, but spare your life.

I used to say that most people wouldn't bend over to pick up a quarter laying on the ground, but buy them a $.10 donut and they'll kiss your ass all day.

Cost vs. the percieved value :)

People at my job always bring in stuff too. I really appreciate it and all, but I never see myself bringing in anything. I'm the cheapest person you'll ever meet. However, I don't like socializing much at work for the simple principle that I don't want to know them better than members of my family. I'm already spending the majority of my waking life at work, I don't want my best friends to be work related on top of it. You can call me anti-social if you wish :) However, I have some of the closest friends outside of work who I've known for about 11 years or so... back to the topic, my favoriate is when they bring in homemade desserts.

And I really believe what goes around comes around.
