I couldn't agree more. My car was only $30k or so, but I still value it enough to try to keep it away from inconsiderate door openers and shopping carts. Parking beside me when I'm at the end of the lot is just being an asshole.

 I can't blame you. one of the cars I have is a POS. You've just inspired me to start driving it again. haha

My 72 VW goes in the back of the parking lot and lets me hike. My tercel parks close and can push shopping baskets out of spaces all by itself.

your 72 VW is your nice car?

That's what I would be afraid of. I see people intentionally taking up two spaces so they don't get a ding in their door, and wonder if they're just asking for more trouble by doing so.

Some of those parking jobs shown are not really assholish. I drive a truck and sometimes end up parking on the line and just say screw it. Now if I was parked well over the line that is another matter.

said asshole parker.

Come on now, EVERYONE parks on the line once in a while. It simply happens a bit more often in a truck or van as it is hard to see the lines (sitting up higher) and the vehicle is far wider giving you less room for error.

Then you suck at parking, please go buy a smart car. There are amazing truck drivers who know how to park, and there are people who drive trucks. You fall in the latter.

What's your evidence that anyone parked on a line actually parked on a line themself and were not forced onto the line by some idiot in another space parked over the line? Thought so. So please shut up.

Lots of these pics look like people parked in a snow covered lot, couldn't see the lines, and then looked like idiots when it melted off.

mostly the pics of cars where nobody is even close to being in a spot.

Maybe people are parking next to you because you have a nice car, and they don't want door dings either.

I don't even drive a nice car, but I still try to take good care of it. I avoid shopping carts and beater vehicles at all costs when parking. When I do drive my "nice" car (near-mint-condition '79 Monte Carlo), I usually drop my wife off at the door and park at the end of the parking lot right next to a curb so that I can leave a big gap next to me in case someone parks there.

We really need dent-resistant doors, all of us.

How'd that work out for Saturn?

Not well, people were too busy complaining about the hard insides and soft outsides to realize that they shouldn't be humping their dashboards.

Now, the Volvo 240GL I had for a while had dent resistant doors. Only because it would take a side impact by a Cat D9 to dent the vault door that Volvo used as a car door.

Parking next to me in an almost completely empty lot and not leaving even a single buffer spot is being an asshole. People do it intentionally. It's not a coincidence that they happened to end up by you when the back 50% of a lot is empty. As long as there are no dings/dents I don't really care, but what is the point?

If the lot is crowded, then yes, I understand parking next to nicer cars if you value your own vehicle.

The reason why a lot of people park next to cars in open lots is because they have no concept of their car's size and boundary, so they use other cars to line them up in parking spots.

It doesn't matter - unless they parked next to you just so they could dent your door, or crowded you so you can't get in and out comfortably. Heck, if they stretch the spot a little, so no one else can park too close to you, then they're doing you a favour. right?

It sounds like you think the world owes you and your car something. Trust me, they don't.

I would so totally park next to that ferrari like that red truck did. Even if I had to get out thru my window or passenger door.

Also, some douche at work when there was only like 5 people in the plant parked sideways across the slanted spots. I put my front bumper right up against his driver-side window and I STILL managed to be mostly in a spot.

It's not that they owe me anything at all. They should just have common decency to not be a jerk. I'm fully aware of where my doors are at every time I open them - not all people are like this. Like I said before, if they don't ding my doors, then I don't care, it's all good. BUT, a lot of people may not PLAN on dinging doors, but if they are loading groceries and the doors gets away on accident, then what? Accidents do happen, and when they can easily avoided it only makes them that much more irritating.

Once you drive a car that you value and want to keep in the best shape possible maybe you would see things from our perspective. I bet your views would change...When careless people start dinging your doors I doubt you will drive away smiling since no one "owes anything" to you and your car.

I saw this thread before I left for school, and when I got there the first thing I saw was a cop writing a ticket for an Audi parked diagonally in 2 spots.

Funny I posted in this thread. A guy in some nice red Mazda looking car parked like a total ass with the back end about 4 inches over the line in the parking garage. There was no reason to do this, grr. I should have parked really close to him but as it is it will be a pita to get out.

Anyone else always record license plates when you see this crap?
