You nearly step on a rattlesnake while hiking in the deep woods. It doesn't bite you, but it was a close call and you are in a very excitable state. However, you get far enough away that you not in any danger. What do you do?

Grab a huge rock or stick and beat it to death. We've had to kill a bunch of them living out in the country. Just chunk a huge rock up in the air so it comes right down on them, and boom, dead rattlesnake.

I live in rattlesnake country.

If I come across one in the woods, I avoid it. If in my yard, R.I.P. snake.

Go around it. If a busy trail, try to scare it off. A similar incident happened to me last fall. I was running a trail around a local lake and nearly stepped on a Copperhead. I saw it at the last second and had to leap over it. I threw a couple of twigs at it but it wouldn't move an inch... I think it was 'playing dead'.

I started to run down the trail again, but I turned around and came back after a few meters. I decided I didn't want some redneck deciding to kill it or another runner possibly getting bitten When I got there though it had already left. It apparently took off the second I started heading away.

Hear the buzzing sound again, jump as high as you can, land on the floor of your bedroom, and realize the alarm clock is buzzing. Then, thank God because you moved to Alaska.

Just leave it alone, walk away from it and go your merry way. Most snakes will retreat away from you. The only time they bite is your near there nesting area, or you step on them... but generally they don't want to mess with you either.

I have encountered a number of snakes, and have been very very fortunate not to be bitten by a poisonous snake..(thank gawd) but each time they just slithered away from me very quickly. Startled the heck out of me though.

Then the polar bear (nay.. polar bear grizzley hybrid) comes and eats you. Damn, every area sucks.. :)
