I take it this makes me a full fledge computer geek. Just picked up this workarea unit from craigslist and set it up in the game room this weekend.

250gb & 160gb SATA

The kids desk and 3100 Sempron Box is also in the same room.

Surprisingly the wife didn't freak out too much.

Suggestion. Download Synergy. I run 3 monitors with 2 computers and one keyboard and mouse, no KVM required.

Thanks might have to give that a try. I only have the one KVM and have more spare 2 ports from the years of collecting.

I do like being able to have two setups up at the same time but will try it out. Would it work to let me control the kids machine on the other side of the room or the wife's laptop downstairs?

My work laptop is in the backpack and my wife has a Dell Inspiron 1100 pos laptop.

I've got the D620 Dell from work. Decent Rig. Dual Core intel, 2gb ram, nivida video, 80gb hd, etc.

A n00b I am not. I've been using computers since age 5 on the Apple II and work in the IT Risk Management group for a well known company.

Length of exposure =/= Amount of knowledge gained

That setup looks about what geeks 5 years ago were using (excpet the LCD and ok Antec cases). Even geeks have moved into the world of ergonomics and relative comfort.

Now what you need is a mini-fridge, several empty cans/bottles of Mt. Dew and energy drinks. An unkempt desk. The only light in the room the eerie glow of the CRTs. Get rid of the windows for sure.

Maybe it'd be better if I just listed the things you got right. You've got the can of compressed air, a UPS, unsightly cable sprawl, multiple network devices, and what looks to be large plastic containers with the PS2 tails of an old beige ball mouse hanging out.

Also, you're not a true geek until you've been verbally abused through the internet by someone questioning your masculinity and heterosexuality because of the type of keyboard you use.
