GUILTY! Oc' 3500+ to 2.7Ghz on mediocre air cooling and tried to use it as make up for not doing laundry. you know the good olde " Well, look what I did for you!"

I had a Costa Rica 300A that ran [/b]naked[/b] stable. 504 MHz stable with a fan that's smaller than most NB fans today.

That was so impressive for a CPU that cost ~185 back in 1998 that was faster than the (then) $750+ PII 450. :D

The G0 (SLACR) Q6600 could very well be the new 300A. Of course if ratios were the same - drool! Imagine a 3.0GHz quad doing 5.0GHz on AIR! The QX9750's are close - 4.5GHz is possible with a strong cooler but more the exception than the rule once that VCORE gets ratcheted up. If they made unicores (LOL I started typing unicorn! ) of these the speeds could be very impressive.

When you install a "Clear CMOS" switch on the front of your case, right next to the power on button.

Sweet merciful crap... that is genius!

Just wire the reset button to the clear cmos jumper instead.

You know, of course, why it's called a stress test? It's designed to see how much YOU can take, not the computer!

Only the Malaysian 300a CPU was guaranteed to make the jump from 300 MHz to 450 MHz. These were also the only CPUs that could make the jump from 300 MHz to 464 or 504 MHz. The Costa Rica production 300a only had about a 50% chance of moving from 300 to 450 MHz, and then only when increased to 2.1 or 2.2 volts, causing it to run very hot. Personally, I have helped build about 15-20 Celeron 300a computers. Some had Malaysia chips and some had Costa Rica CPUs. Every single Celeron 300a from Malaysia could hit 464 MHz with only a .05 increase in voltage.

Maylays were the shiznit. Specifically the SL36A's were lusted after by many a overclocking, male and female alike.

you save different clock settings in the bios for fast, faster, show-off clockspeed that cant get into post.

Great thread, I know I OC too much because when I'm bored I keep trying to get my X2 3800+ to 3.0Ghz knowing damn well it is not stable past 2.8Ghz.

You know you overclock too much when you keep upping the Vcore past "safe" voltages because you know if you fry the CPU, it gives you an excellent excuse to go buy a new one.

You hate summer because you have to slightly underclock to deal with the temperature change

You've measured out the distance to the nearest vent and priced out foil piping to reach from that to your computer vents

...you consider spending months and hundreds of dollars to convert a windows AC unit to a water chiller for your A64 single core system to squeeze a couple extra mhz instead of just spending $300 and buying a C2D thats twice as fast.

You consider clocking below your maximum cold-weather overclock to be an "underclock."

To me there this is my favorite class of overclockers. Those who are not after WORLD RECORD but rather those folks who are interested in taking their existing hardware to a new level of performance relative to them.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy living vicariously thru the forum exploits of our would-be Skulltrail owners, but getting the best performance by spending top-dollar or by starting out with the absolute best hardware to begin with before overclocking just doesn't excite me personally as much as the guys who take their 2 year old rigs and figure out how to get another year of acceptable performance out of them...even if the price/performance ratio sucks ballz doing it.
