You just received all the parts for your company's backup/archive server and building it then burning it in becomes your #1 priority superceding all other job responsibilities!! ;)

.... you shut down your we server to try to catch the guy leading you in the race, only to have 10,000 customers e-mail you telling you your server is down. ( did that day before yesterday :) )

...you eyeball your Black & Decker toaster oven every morning wondering if the embedded OS that controls it could be hacked to provide a WU every third day or so.

...you constantly scheme ways to build another computer cheaper. No case, no problem. One CD and floppy drive that you swap between 10 computers, no problem.

Teriba, I could whip up a ten-to-one splitter cable, if you like. That way there is no time wasted hooking and unhooking it. ;)

Engineer....why do you think I havent done it yet.....its not the rain.....

The threat of my wife shooting me with my service weapon isnt all that appealing.....

The rain part is not a biggie....that is why god invented cardboard boxes and trash bags.....LOL

Plus ive got a 1000 foot box of cat 5, I could make a couple of runs out to the dog house with that......LOL

Ray, why not use the computers as furniture? :D Get a few big Addtronics server cases and use them as end tables..a few big desktops on some bricks as a coffee table.. :)

LOL! I should have thought of that! :D

I could build a couch crack rack. Instead of making the rack tall, make it long with a top, Arms could be full tower cases, a few throw pillows, and voila! The Cracking Couch! :D

<<

<< ...you have computers that have nothing installed on them but Windows and SETI. >>

You hit the nail on the head there for me. I dusted off an old eMachines PIII 500 with a copy of Win ME and Seti Driver. That's it. I booted it up, and then unplugged the monitor, the mouse, and the keyboard. All it has is a power cable right now. In a week I'll check on its progess and flush the cache. :)
>>

I did the same thing with a P3 933.

I actually do have an Intel Cabrillo-C server chassis functioning as an end table.:Q Was supposed to be a WU machine but that fell through. Maybe selling it soon if anyone is interested.

1. You stay up til 3am to get Windows XP reinstalled on a friend's computer cos their brother installed Easy CD Creator 4 on it and it screwed it all up, a week after you gave it back to them after having it for 2 weeks while you "were looking for the Windows XP cd" ;)

2. You POST in a "You know you are addicted to SETI when..." thread

3. You agree with or do everything mentioned in the "You know you are addicted to SETI when..." thread

4. You have more computers in the house than people

5. You drive faster than the speed limit when carrying your computer so that you minimise down time (note to any police in my area, it was only on a couple of occasions, and down country lanes when there was no other traffic or pedestrians)

6. You look at EVERYTHING and think "i wonder if i could run SETI on that"

7. You tried to install Linux on your iPaq to run SETI on it, then ended up turning it into a paperweight (but am in the process of trying to repair it)

8. You can think of 8 things to post in a "You know you are addicted to SETI when..." thread

How bout when...

You try to find a way to install SETI on the dispatch terminal in your take home government issue car.

A) without crashing the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch).

B) without pissing the techies off.

or

When you try to install SETI on your handspring visor.

or

Try to think of ways to intecept AOLs mailing of free CDs so you can substitute AOL for SETI.

People look at the needle marks on your arm and think youre a heroin addict because you have been to the blood bank so many times to get some money to buy more computers just to run SETI.
