So I guess life is indeed not fair then. If you're hit with the fat stick, you should just put down the bag of doritos all in the while I can eat four bags because my body can burn it without excercise. rofl.

Exactly.

I was born skinny and wiry. As a result, I need to watch how much weight I lift so I don't throw out my back, I need to ask for help when I'm moving something really big and bulky, and I'll never compete in the Olympics. If I want to get stronger, I have to put forth a good deal of effort...my body does NOT build muscle easily. But you don't catch me complaining about how unfair it is, how easy it is for the strong people, how I should get a disabled permit because, poor me, my body isn't quite as powerful as other people...

What's wrong with ATOT lately? Am I not writing in English? ;)

LIFE ISN'T FAIR, THEY'VE BEEN TELLING US THIS SINCE WE WERE KIDS, DEAL WITH IT!

I eat a lot of TV dinners. I always check the nutritional information. There are a lot of reasonably healthy ones. 200-400 calories with nothing terribly bad for you. I think those are often healthier than other "easy to make" lunch alternatives. At least, unless you are like crazy and make your lunch the night before. But only crazy people do that.

Homer Simpson: What are you talking about?
Manager: What I'm saying, sir, is that a man of your carriage couldn't possibly fit in our seats.
Homer Simpson: I can sit in the aisle.
Manager: I'm afraid that would violate the fire code.
Bystander: Hey, Fatty! I've got a movie for ya: A Fridge Too Far!

Homer Simpson: Shame on all of you. Give me my dignity! I just came here tosee Honk If You're Horny in peace.
Manager: Sir, if you'd just quiet down, I'd be happy to treat you to a garbage bag full of popcorn.
Homer Simpson: This may surprise you, but you can't buy me off with food. I'm sick of all your stereotypes and cheap jokes! The overweight individuals in this country are just as smart and talented and hard working as everybody else. And they're going to make their voices heard! All they need is a leader.

My favorite from Married with Children
Al is serving a fat woman named Sandy.

SANDY These shoes are too big! I'm swimming in them.

AL Well, that would explain the life-preserver under your dress.

SANDY I'm gonna go out on a limb here; you've never been employee of the month, have you?

AL That's right, but if I were you, I wouldn't be going out on any limbs.

SANDY [angrily] Look, I told you; I'm a five! And you are going to sell me a five if... if I
have to sit here all night!

AL So because you're mad at me, you're going to take it out on a perfectly innocent chair. A
chair that has suffered enough already.

SANDY Well, I have just about had enough of you!

AL Well, you wouldn't say that if I came with fries and a medium drink!

Sandy looks at him angrily, and is breathing heavily.

AL You know, "medium" - the size between small and you!

SANDY [slowly] I'm not leaving here until you help me!

AL Well, I don't know what I can do that God and Deal-A-Meal couldn't, but I'll give it a
shot.

Exactly. 20lbs overweight could be slow metabolism. Even 40lbs... MAYBE as much as 50 depending on your build. Anything beyond that is being fucking lazy. At some point, whether you realize your metabolism might be slow or not, you gotta realize that you have to do something about it.

It's kinda like going in to debt. You can be down on your luck for a few months, but at some point you just gotta stop spending money on crap.

"overweight" is such a crap term... "overweight" can refer to people who are in perfect health with a little extra muscle... and your title said "fat" people.

Your metabolism slows down if you sleep all day and sit on your ass at home because you're handicapped for being morbidly obese

A quarter mile? That's one lap around a track. And you couldn't do it?

You should buy a jumprope man. That'll get your endurance back up there cardio-wise and it doesn't take much time at all to get your heartrate going.

Sure, I COULD go on a starvation-type diet, eating salads and such, reducing my caloric intake and make the body burn the fat, but WHY?

I take water aerobics classes during the summer at college and drop at least 25 lbs over the summer, but once it gets too cold to be in the outside pool, the weight comes back.
I've resigned myself to being Boomer the Hut...

It isn't just being lazy, although that is a large component ... but look at the crap people eat. Everything is uber-processed, and we wonder why we're getting fatter as a society. And everything is meat-based ... I'm not a complete vegetarian, but I have recently really cut my meat consumption, probably by about 90%. I feel so much better, and have lost a lot of weight, though my activity level is about the same as before.

Many of you probably would call me a fatty, but I feel good that I'm doing something about it, and chances are, if you eat crappy, but are skinny, I'll outlive you because I won't have a coronary event :)

I have a couple friends (sisters), who've pretty much been over weight their whole lives (they're even chubbier than normal in baby pictures). They eat much healthier than I do, we were in volleyball together in highschool and they worked just as hard as anyone else on the team, but they've never lost the extra weight. Most of the time I think obesity is the person's own fault, but knowing these two, I have to agree that some people are just unlucky.

sure, it is more difficult for some people to lose weight, but if they were to get lap band or gastric bypass surgery the pounds would come off.

A lot of fat people are also too poor to afford a cosmetic surgery like that (most plans still consider weight loss surgerys cosmetic. That's assuming they have health insurance to begin with). That brings up a whole new argument of "Well maybe they should make more money then", but surgery probably isn't an option for most of these fat folks.

It still comes down to simple science. Gastric bypass lets less food into the system right? Eating less does the same thing. Mass cant form out of thin air.

that was what i was getting at. these people have a harder time losing weight, but when forced to eat less (gastric surgery) they do lose weight. so... they can lose weight, yeh.

It's human nature though. If people could just flip a switch (in this case get their stomach stapled) and suddenly lose the ability to do harmful stuff to themselves (in this case eat clarified butter all day) then we could fix a lot of stuff. If we could do a mouth stapling that stopped people from smoking, less people would smoke. Or a weiner stapling that stopped people from masturbating, people would stop masturbating (bad example because that's not an unhealthy activity, but it's a comfort thing people do a lot)

People make retarded choices because they're incapable of taking a long term view. So they do something to take away that choice. That's how stomach stapling works. And that's why "don't eat so much fatty" isn't a comparable solution.

its that most of them dont fucking care that they are fat

I don't have a problem with the ones that don't complain. I have a problem with the fatties that are always whining about how fat they are.

There is a woman in my apartment building who has a handicapped parking tag. The only ailment that I can notice is that she is obese. I would be mad that I have to park around the corner sometimes while she always has a front row spot except for the fact that she is immense and I can laugh at that.

Agreed. I hate that shit too. Nothing worse than driving to the grocery store in the pouring down rain and see some fat ass getting out of their car in a handicap spot.

Wrong. Nothing worse than said fat ass getting out of their car in a handicap spot and plopping their whale sized ass into a Scooters America electric chair with wheels. And they have an open bag of cheesy puffs stuck to their belly.

How in the fuck is that any of your business? Why does it matter to you what she eats?

I swear, the fat-hat on this forum borders on outright bigotry...it's no different than hating someone because of their race, national origin, or religion.

I can only imagine the amount of hatred if someone started hating on Asians or Indians...even though it wouldn't last long...because the person would get an instant permaban...

do you know anything more about your health other than height/weight? How much fat versus muscle do you have? What's your blood pressure? Cholesterol level?
A person matching your body specs, and a fat person, have equal chances of keeling over at age 40 from bad health. Just because you have a fast metabolism doesn't mean you can eat unhealthy. That unhealthy part is what kills.

hmm.. didn't realize this thread was 4 pages long. :( Everything I typed was probably already brought up. I fail.

While you are right in some cases, a few points:

1)medical care and handicapped spaces cost ME tax money.

2)race and national origin are completely out of our control. Weight and religion are not. Sure enough, not a lot of racial bashing gets tolerated on this forum...but a decent bit of religion and fat-bashing does.
