You know the PS3 is failing when the PSP UMD movie section is bigger than the PS3 game section at your local sales outlets.... burn!

I can't believe it. I've got a Wii (Metroid, Zelda) and a 360 (Dead Rising, non DRM riddled Bioshock, Gears of War coop) because they have at least *two* whole games worth getting the system for, but so far nothing on the PS3 that I like or want.

I'm really looking for a reason to get one to mess with home brew on the Cell, but I'm not going to buy one just for that unless there are a few games to go with it.
Yet another PS3 bashing thread=locked-DAPUNISHER

I have to admit, I was pretty stoked with Resistance & replaying Oblivion when I first got the PS3. Lately though, I haven't even turned the system on in about a month.

The 360 has been keeping me really busy lately + I don't see that changing until sometime in '08

I've been busy with other games (Planescape: Torment, Xenosaga 1) but my to-play list for the PS3 is:

(already own)
Resistance FoM

(plan to rent)
Lair -- it's 50/50 whether people "get" the controls & gameplay, I want to see for myself
Motorstorm
Ninja Gaiden (never played the older versions)
Heavenly Sword
Warhawk

Some of the PSN download games like Super Stardust HD also look interesting, I just have too many unplayed games to buy more yet.

It's true that if you already have a 360 you won't need a PS3 for any of the cross-platform games, and there aren't many exclusives yet.

Meanwhile I'm using mine as a blu-ray player. Movies at true 1080p look much better than upscaled 480i on my 50" Samsung DLP.

Edit: since this is sort of another console war thread, note that I'd recommend a (65nm Falcon) 360 over a PS3 for someone who only has the budget for one of the two. Cross-platform games are often a bit better on the 360 and its exclusives library is still much stronger. 360 + PS2slim = years of gaming.

Comparing a selection that's been out for... what, 3 years? To a selection that's been out almost 1 year? Sounds smart to me.

Resistance, Warhawk, Oblivion? Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ninja Gaiden (some say good, some say decent, some say "Already played). The Darkness, R6: Vegas, GRAW 2?

There's plenty to like, and especially more to come!

I'm not even going to say anything about the UMD argument. :-\

No, I just think it's funny that an obscure format that was doomed from the start and widely unpopular, regardless of how long it's been out, has more selection than a supposedly popular gaming platform that has been out for a year now.

Point being is that UMD is a joke and is relatively non-existent and unsupported despite the time it's been out so it's no surprise that the selection is low. That the PS3 game selection is like the ONLY thing with less selection than UMD... is really saying something about PS3 selection...

None of the other consoles, even on their day of release much less a year later, had less shelf space reserved for their games than PSP UMD...

I suppose if you took away all the "Spongebob" and "Dora the Explorer" games off the Wii shelves and the "Madden 3947616394 Ultra Edition" games off the Xbox shelves they would probably be the same, save for the must haves I mentioned.

I've even started seeing the same game duplicated on shelves like 4 and 5 times trying to pad out the game selection and make it look bigger... you would have NEVER seen that kind of crap in the SNES vs. Genesis days where those two systems alone dominated every wall with their selections.

Gaming in general has been stagnant lately, but seeing the PSP selection, dismal by any standards much less it's 3 year life, towering over the widely hyped and anticipated PS3 section, was just too funny to resist commenting. The only way it could have been even more funny is if the N-gage had more shelf space devoted to games than the PS3.

How was that the point? There are a ton of UMD movies. Like seriously, a ton. I don't know how, because no sane person buys them, they must be cheap to produce. However, the fact that there's a TON of them means nothing.

OMG! There are more DVD's than 360, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, and PS3 games combined! Console gaming is doomed!

what store do you shop at that happens to carry movie UMD movies than PS3 games?
and besides, that's not a sign of failing, that's a sign of youth. The PS3 hasn't even been out for a year. Expect a library the size of the PS2 already or something?

I'm really interested in Heavenly Sword and warhawk. I love Resistance and of course Oblivion is good.
but R6:Vegas SUCKS hardcore on the PS3 if you are interested in playing online. Trust me on this.

What's up with R6:V on the PS3? Isn't it a port from the 360 version?

Oblivion was tons of fun but I prefer it on the PC rather than the PS3 or 360 due to it's mods, which I think give that game limitless gameplay.

It's missing Xbox Live. We were trying to play R6 online on the PS3 and we spent 30 minutes and were able to get into a game once. When we did, the voice quality is horrible. We tried again later and had the same problems.
NO one has headsets, and when we were playing there was more trashtalk than there is on Xbox live if you can believe that.
There is no option for "custom game" which allows you to pull up a list of all the servers available, you have no choice but to use the quick game option.

The graphics aren't as good as the 360 version either. Everything is kind of blurry. We did a comparison by switching between the 360/PS3 and there is a big difference.

I could go on but you should get the point :) Or you can try it and find out for yourself :D

Well if UMD = fail and has a fail library, and something much bigger and far more popular has even less of a library after a year of being out and many years of being hyped... making the connection yet?

The UMD section I saw wasn't even the complete selection, it was maybe 8x8 and the PS3 section next to it was like 3x8 (not the exact numbers, but thats kinda what I saw).

This was at Circuit City and Software ETC both.

I don't expect it to have a big library at all right due to it's youth, but when I saw the failing and dwindling UMD section dwarfing the PS3 game section, tumble weeds and all, I couldn't help but think "burn!" especially when 90% of the PS3 isle was nothing but controllers and unwanted PS3s.

It's not that PSP has been out longer, it's that UMD is unpopular, failing, ignored, and dwindling and given the smallest little bit of token shelf space and all but being phased out completely, and it's still bigger than the mighty PS3...

To me it was the same slap in the face as if the N-gage game selection was bigger than the Wii or something.... doesn't matter that it's been out longer, it matters that it failed and nobody cared and nothing was made for it, but it's STILL bigger...

Sorry, its not failing. What has failed.. is your troll topic. You're pretty ignorant on what you try to talk about. The UMD's are not failing, in fact sales are increasing. Try getting some facts before posting.

UMD's are a huge failure. i still remember a long time ago when Wal-mart pulled them off the shelves because they weren't selling.

Just to back it up:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07...scontinues-umd-movies/

Walmart and Target discontinued them.

Sales might be picking up, though until I see proof I don't believe it.

DVD's are a standard medium used by everyone. Clearly its library will be large. UMD's are not very popular, most people who own PSP's don't buy them (I am one). PS3 game library, by relative size, is lower and can be said to suck.

Granted, the OP's example wasn't the greatest (I don't particularly agree with it), but you went around the wrong way attacking it using DVD's of all things. Don't play dumb and pretend your example works against the OP at all.

thank you for proving how ignorant you really are.

just because the format is failing, doesn't mean it can't have a large library. A few studios have chosen to keep making UMD (well not sure about now, but that used to be the case), so all new movies would be released. There are more movies released by Sony/Tristar in a period of a few years then their are PS3 games released in a single year, and that's if Sony/Tristar is the ONLY studio releasing UMD movies, which they weren't. Your logic is obviously flawed.
Look at Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Technically, both formats are selling horribly when compared to DVD sales, yet both manage to have libraries larger than, guess what, even the 360!!!! OH NOES! THE 360 IS FAILING!
Guess what. Their have probably been more UMD movies released than 360 games. And the PS3 aisle can only display the number of games that have been made.

I can only stress those same points a certain number of times before I get bored. Which I am bored now. Your trolling has bored me. Congrats.

are you saying the system sucks because the library of games is so small, or that the library itself sucks because of it's size. Just confuses me because I don't see what people expect for a system that's not yet a year old. And if you are saying all the games in the library suck, well that's a matter of opinion. I have a few games I enjoy quite a bit. :)
