you can always use a XP install cd from another machine, it's perfectly fine as long as you use the original serial number (which is on the label on your PC). Better yet, you can create a XP install cd with SP2 embedded into it, so you don't have to download a million updates after the install. In fact, in the case of my IBM laptop, it already contained the XP install files in a directory (it's called the "i386" directory) and you can find instructions online on how to create a bootable install cd using the files in this directory. I believe dell does the same thing as IBM, to save having to give you an install cd, i guess.
