You just realized you won the lotto, what's the FIRST thing you do?

First thing is pay off mine and the wifes' school loans/mortgage. 2nd is do the same thing for my parents and my mother in law. 3rd Put 90% of the remaining in a savings account so I can live off the interest. 4th take whatever is left and start my own company.

One thing that's been confusing me is how do the winners claim the reward anonymously. How do you find a trustworthy lawyer/trustee/etc.. to accept the winnings for you? I'm sure there's a contract and they write it for you to sign but if they wanted to screw you over couldn't they contain some hidden clause under some legal jargon? And wouldn't you hand over the winning ticket to them and the ticket is probably unsigned so you can remain anonymous.

Depends how much I won. I would hire a financial guy that day. I would buy plane tickets to Vegas immediately after.

Get a financial adviser. Maybe a lawyer. Then once I start receiving money pay off all of my bills and all of my parents bills and their mortgage. Pay my brothers bills off also and then I make my dad take early retirement and get them a nice house in Florida on the water with a guest house for my grandma. Then id get my own house on the water near them with at least a 4 car garage. 8+ would be better. I'd invest about half of the winnings and then I would buy a nice boat, big enough for ocean going and deep see fishing. Couple jet skis. A backup boat to go on the bigger boat. Then i'd get a Ferrari F430 and a Audi R8 and maybe an Audi S8 to relax in.

ahhhh its nice to dream 🙁

can't believe we took that long.

yeah, everyone that posted before me is a n00b loser

Step one lawyer. The jewiest, most scarfacish ripoff artist skeezy lawyer I can find. And in Miami, I shouldn't have to look very far off south beach. Pay him a :LOT: of money. He becomes the fall guy. Hope he doesn't turn into the next Rothstein.
Step two financial panther.
Step three move in with my weird cousin in rural upper MI until the money comes in.

Like you JUST realized you won, and know it to be 100% sure.

I think the first thing I would do is grab my dog, parrot and few personal items and head to my brothers house in NJ, since his neighborhood is a mid-upper class community already.

There is NO way I will stay in my apartment in The Bronx, I'd be extremely afraid of someone busting in and killing me if I stood around. I hate living in the ghetto. 🙁

Once this is done, then I would go about contacting the lottery agencies, and only immediate family.
The police would probably shoot you while you were on the way to your brothers house.

I definitely wouldn't tell anyone else about it (except maybe my wife). I would set myself up for life, and then give the rest to charity.
That's funny because your wife said that we would send you a post card from Aruba...

Research whether it makes more financial sense to pay off my / parents properties right away or whether that same amount of money would have a greater return in conservative investment x.

  1. Contact attorney
  2. Contact financial planner and CPA
  3. Party like a Rock Star! well...maybe just a bit.😛
  4. Go on a "house-hunting expedition...time to move.

I would jump and throw my hands in the air like I just don't care! And celebrate.

Once I get the money it would immediatly go into my high interest savings account then I'd give myself lot of time to decide what to do with it. I'd pay off any outstanding debts right away like my mortgage.

Care to guess why many said they'd first hire a financial advisor? Because only a few hundred grand is protected by the FDIC if the bank goes under. You're off to a bad start.
