If it's a car alarm, I listen to see if it's one of mine. If not, (and it never has been) I roll over and go back to sleep, muttering about fucking assholes and their gawd-dammed car alarms...

not always the same town, but that makes no difference in the age off being able to communicate with people using radio waves...
you will always be directed to the nearest call center, and that call center will notify local police.

No, are you? 911 call centers cost a lot of money to operate. Not all small towns fund them as far as I know.

lol I have a hard time believing any city would not have 911 service. I'm sure even Detroit has it. The quality of it may vary though.

I never realized it was possible to go in a hold queue when calling 911, but it actually happened to me once! I almost felt like laughing, but it seemed inappropriate at the time, given there was a guy on the ground near me.

So you probably get connected to the wrong phone number and then do nothing about the alarm and then complain about their response time when you have no idea when it was called in since you did nothing? :(

I've never understood the point of car alarms. Things that set them off appear to include: leafs falling off trees, cats, thunderstorms, and people walking past the car.

And as a result nobody ever pays any attention to them, including the owners of the vehicle. Car alarms go off all the time around here and I have never. ever seen the owner of a vehicle appear to investigate - presumably because they also know it means nothing.

All they do is wake me up at night. (Them and the police helicopter buzzing around for ages for no discernible reason - wonder if I could call the police to complain about noise pollution by the police?)

Given that in this country its actually illegal to sound your car horn while stationary I don't understand why car alarms are even legal, as that's essentially what they are. (Granted the only time I've ever heard of the car horn law being enforced was when someone sounded their horn at a police car in front of them, but its technically a law).

Even house alarms don't seem much better, as there always seems to be at least one house in the street with one that goes off every other day for no reason so again you get used to ignoring them.

If you live in a ghetto you usually hear these kinds of things. People with a little money usually have alarms that are not annoying them constantly.

Most car alarms are just thrown in without tweaking the sensors or setting them way to sensitive.

I at most get 'chirps' during heavy thunderstorms or if an animal jumps on the car. No falses in almost 4 years with it.

My house alarm falsed a few times in the first month due to having pets and getting the motions dialed in.

If either of my alarms are going off, there is an issue that I'd hope a neighbor that heard would at least call the police.

I'd do the same and even go to investigate.

People want the benefits of society, but are not willing to put their own resources up.

I'm pretty sure I pay a 911-related surcharge on my cell phone bill. It had damn well better work everywhere. :p
