Yep, moved here for grad school at UW, and liked it enough to stay. My Bellevue apartment is much nicer than my hovel just off the Ave was, though the fast food was better there -- good gyros, good Thai food, and so-so Mexican food 😉

What did you study at the UW?
Which thai places did you frequent?
Comp Sci, this was back in '91-'93 so I imagine the thai places have all changed by now. Then again gopunk told me CS is still in what's left of Sieg even though they were already designing the new building while I was there.

Yep... I think this is their almost last year in Sieg... damn, that thing needs to be vacated and donated to the Economics dept. 😛

Damn I saw this thread and was going to mention that. If only they could have understood us and vice-versa it might not have been as bad! Now, there is a pretty good Mexican restaurant on the West Side of Bham.
What's it called?

Habeneros

BTW it is in Hueytown.

Best mexican food I've ever had was at El Paso Cantina in Redondo Beach, CA. LA County is filled with great Cal-Mex restaurants, much better than anything I've had since moving to Seattle. Though taco time is appealing as weird semi-Mexican-like junk food -- mmm, mexi tater tots!

Heyyy, I didn't know you lived in Seattle. Well, Bellevue, apparently. Rock on.

Haha....I moved from Bellevue to LA....mmm......good mexican food......never had any mexican food in seattle, seriously, my first encounter of mexican food was here in LA, before i thought mexican food is just beans and taco.......bad taco belll!

Jilbertos in Riverside, CA. The best in Riverside. It has all the attributes of a good taco stand, such as dim lighting, questionable music and health codes.

if you disagree with me on this subject you don't know what your talking about.

P.S. it tastes better when you come to the restaurant at 2 am and the place is packed and the cooks have the mariachi blasting on some $hitty old radio. thats the best ambiance anyone could ask for.

I agree with ElFenix:
best tex-mex ever is at lupe tortilla's in a house thats about to fall apart off of i10 and hwy 6 on the west side of houston.
The best mexican food doesn't come from a restaurant that advertises on TV or billboards. The really good stuff comes from little tin shacks that are falling apart. You can spot them by the hoard of beat-up work trucks parked out front. The menu is probably pretty limited, but you don't order off of the menu anyway. And they're not located in malls or mini-malls in any large metropolitan area. You'll find them stuck in between a couple of junkyards or body shops in commercial areas, or out in the middle of nowhere with a hand-written sign over the door...

The best food is always found in places like that. Goes for any type of food, mexican, thai, chinese, japanese, french (well, not sure about that), american, etc.

i think we all can agree that its not in chicago.

Oh, no. Hit up San Jose's, or Pancho Pistola's, or like five other places that are so small they don't even have names, and then we'll talk. 😛😛😛

Edit: And where are all the Chicago peeps to back me up? One's chimed in so far...let's represent and show these Californians how good Chi-town is.

pancho lives in california! and san jose is a city in california!
