We're in jail, dude.

So whats the deal with the investigation, any word on if they broke engagement rules?

I think they might have, but nothing will come of it, I don't think either army wants that. You can see from the video they were given faulty info and were immediately regretful.

I heard that the recon unit that got shot up is pretty angry though.

Most of us are well aware of the competence, professionalism and valor of the men and women of the British armed forces, and they probably get more respect than any other than our own here in the U.S. We just tend to be loudmouthed, and the less thoughtful among us tend to shoot off their mouths before they think. I haven't watched the vid, but he doesn't speak for all Americans.

Britain is helping right now despite the objections of our other allies.

As many British fought and died in WWII as Americans. In fact Britain fought the NAZIs for two years before the Americans joined in.

What happened in the case currently causing a stir in the U.K. press is (afaict) barely registering on our own, which makes us look insensitive. I think it is generally chalked up to a combination of a court finding that it was basically a mistake and that there was no reason to ruin more good soldiers lives over the accident.

I (and most americans, I think) consider any friendly fire incident a horrible shame, no matter the nationality of the friendly on the other end, and I think the British army probably stands out more than any other -- the U.K. army is almost as well loved here as our own. ;)

both pilots were found NOT to have broken any rules and followed procedure prior to engagement. they asked the controller 4 times if there were friendlies in the area and each time they were told no.

Friendly fire happens, and I would just toss it as another bad luck to the dead British soldiers. I mean, sh*t happens on battlefield, and worse back then (WWII).

However, the pilot's attitude on the interview was completely horrifying. I hope he's simply a bad apple in the whole barrel.

He is a redneck and stupid, but he does not speak for all Americans. Stupidity is universal, sad to say, but too many of the people cursed with this horrible affliction do live in the United States.

And the pilots were very upset about what had happened, but it was not their fault. They did ask for confirmation multiple times, I'm interested to hear where the controller got his intel.

Don't let it make you mad. Who cares what he thinks? If you are going to get mad, get mad at the station for airing his useless opinion.

I do agree with you on all points.

However, I'm at least that offended by the "journalist" who keeps referring to "the killer". This was not a deliberate act, by any stretch of the imagination. That guy's trying to stir up controversy, and it looks like he succeeded.

There are 300 million of us. You can do the math to figure out what % his dumba$$ed opinion represents. I don't take offense when some random Brit starts running his mouth about our supposed failings and you should take the rantings of some random American with a similar grain of salt. Personally I have nothing but admiration for the performance of the British in WWII and Sir Winston Churchill is on my most admired list.

No doubt, it was an accident, but he still did kill the guy.

No doubt about that either.

I didn't say anything against Americans in general, and if I implied anything I apologize. It's just this guy and his type I have a problem with.

It just goes to show the mindset of the "journalist" and his editors/producers. Their intention is clear: riling up sentiments against the Americans. And it worked, didn't it?

The guy is an idiot and most of the US definitely doesn't think that about England. We try our best to confine these types to trailer parks, but on occasion, one gets loose. Sorry.

Most Americans have a problem with his type. I know I do.
