<< I dunno, maybe my parents' drive is flukey, but just so you know. >>

Flukey. We don't get enough flukey these days.... We should bring it back.

I think too many people are raving about the pioneer dvd- 106s.

It can not even read a CDR properly. Granted it is a great DVD player if that all you need.

Try running nero cdrom test on it with a CDR and it can't even start the test.

Oh, well like I said all depends on your needs.

Slot load DVDs here for 1.5 years. Before that, two generations of Slot Load CD ROMs. Also have them in both cars for the past 6 years. Never a mark or a problem. Once you use a slot, you will never be happy with a knee-busting coffee cup holder. 🙂

Additionally, I never have a problem reading a CDR or a CD/RW - have the 106S on two machines . . . and am always playing CDRs. No problem there. Then again - I don't burn with Nero either. 🙂

<<

Got you beat 😉,my old Pioneer 6x DVD drive is well over 2 years old now and is still going strong, no problems with it or the discs.
>>

I'll just have to equal you on that 😉 6x and still tops, no disc scratches. When accessing a data DVD it's pretty loud, but with a movie DVD it a bit quieter.

<< Scootin, you mentioned something about a sound cover - is this an actual product? You've piqued my interest. >>

It's something I'm working on creating...if it's easy enough to make I might even sell a few of them 😉.

Let us know, eh?

I'm thinking of applying some clear tape or laminate on my drive...it might help.

<< I think slot loads are limited to full size cd's only. I don't think it has the capability to grab 3" cd's to load and unload them. Pioneer's website may mention capabilities to handling smaller cd's.

If I remember right there is something you put the 3 " cd in and then put it into the drive. How to get this thing (I have never seen one myself)? don't know at all.

from Aqualize

I have purchased the adapter at the local record store (funny saying something so old 🙂 ) or and music cd trade/sale shop... most import music cd's are the 3" size.

I love my pioneer 16x slot load. Easy, I hate waiting for the tray and if its too loud get that pioneer tool that make the drive go into quiet mode. I haven't noticed any scratches on my cds either.
