You guys have your kids get flu shots?

I haven't gotten mine yet, going tomorrow morning to our clinic to get it, but my wife never gets the shot and generally never gets sick, and we've never had our daughter get one yet either. She's 10, and the wife is a teacher, so both of them are constantly in a cesspool of germs and subject to a grotesque amount of bodily fluids and germs daily. So do you guys make your kids get the shot?

Nope but he's in nursing school and I think they require it before clinicals.

Haven't had one in 25 years nor had the flu since then. Lucky I guess but I've already heard of several cases locally.

My kids got theirs at school this year I think. My wife works in healthcare and jabbed my arm in the kitchen one night when I got home from work.

What's funny is that I got a bill from her office like 2 weeks later.

Funny? Threaten to have her locked up for assault if they don't drop the bill.

😛

Never had a flu shot, and I maybe had the flu once. Kinda don't think so though. Pretty sure it was just severe bronchitis and/or pneumonia. /I/ never got my daughter a shot, but her mother may have.

No kids here, but me personally I usually don't bother unless I happen to be somewhere where they are giving it, then it's a "while I'm here" thing and I get it. I have nothing against it, I'm just lazy. I won't bother actually going to wait in line at the health unit to get it, or make a dr appointment just for that. Only really gotten the flu once, and I'm not even sure if it was a strain the shot would have protected me from anyway. There's so many different strains that even if you get the shot it's not guaranteed to work.

If I had kids, I would make sure we all get it though. Kids are more at risk because of school etc and likewise parents are probably going to get more public contact than someone single like me. When I worked at the hospital I got it as I did not want to be a risk to patients.

Vaccinated for sure. I'm not one of those crazy-ass anit-vaxxers! I just wasn't sure giving a 10-yr a flu shot was going to affect her developing immune system.
What if her immune system cannot fight off whatever is trying to make her sick??
Vaccinations in no way prevent the immune system from developing!
I am not sure the word developing is the correct work in this case...

After having kids I get it every year now.

Previous to that I probably didn't get it that often. I'm generally the type that never gets sick. Probably because I don't wash my hands and use hand sanitizer every 5 minutes like some nut-houses do.

Made the kids and wife get it this year for the first time, now 2 of 3 kids have the flu. Yay!

Flu shots don`t work that way...chances are the flu was already taking hold in their systems before the shot!
Just becausre you get a flu shot that is not a get out of jail free card......it just means you probably won`t gt a real bad flu....
You can get the flu if you’ve had a flu shot. Getting a flu shot does significantly lower your risk of getting the flu, but you can still get it. The flu vaccine is better some years than others, but regardless, you can still get the flu.

There's still a benefit to getting a flu shot. Those who received the vaccine and get the flu often have milder cases of the infection than people who were not vaccinated.

The risk of getting the flu after taking the flu shot is low. Studies from previous years show that the flu vaccine, whether given as a shot or nasal spray, appears to protect up to 60% of people from getting sick when the vaccine is a good match to the circulating viruses. The effectiveness of the vaccine during any given flu season depends on the health of the person who receives it and how well-matched the viruses in the vaccine are to the particular viruses circulating at the time.

People whose immune systems are compromised and elderly people are most likely to contract the flu, even if they've been vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The vaccine itself does not cause the flu.

I know all this as I am not an idiot.

They got the shot two months ago, just now got the flu. B strain, seems to be the only one around here so far this year. I am taking my usual chances by not getting the shot. I'd rather have the time off work to be honest.

Nobody said you were an idiot! But with that said a lot of people believe that if they get a flu shot they will get the flu...regardless if they are an idiot or not......that is what you implied!!

Why take the chance?
I have known two people pass away from the flu. One was a 56 y.o. male, the other a 41 y.o. female a couple years back.
There is zero reason for not getting a flu shot.

I thought my comment was more snarky, I must remember to use the /s tag.
