Mobo: I was looking for the same mobo... $129 is sort of expensive for that board... but since it's so scarce, I guess the price is ok. I'm just going to try my luck at computer shows next month, or hope that the availability of this board increases. Good pick though.

CDR: $201 for that? Should have jumped on the Zip CDR w/burnproof deal the past couple of days, or the TDK deal. Highly recommend burnproof, and the drives that have it aren't that much more expensive than what you are paying for that HP.

Case: Don't know how many bays that case has, but I paid $92 ship for my Antec SX1030B full tower from Onvia.com. Great quality, huge case...

HD: Jump on the Maxtor 40gb drive deal at OfficeDepot.com... got mine shipped for $116.59 today.

I don't really have any recommendations or opinions on the other components... by the way, this shouldn't be in this forum... ain't a hot deal...

MOBO - Abit KA7 - 100 a nice mobo check pricewatch for a good price (i think they run about 130)
CPU - buy an oem duron and a nice heatsink here and overclock it (if u are in to that)
BURNER - way too much for the burner check out pricewatch they have 12x's for 165 if memory serves me
CASE - for 153 u can get a much better case, check out the [H for suggestions
KEYBOARD - Microsoft Internet Keyboard, or u can get that color if u are into that stuff
MOUSE - again a microsoft intellimose optical or the frooty mouse
MONITOR - i have no idea i know nothing about em
RAM - go to Memory Man if you want some nice Mosel to Overclock with, otherwise stick with what u got
SOUND CARD - way as well go with a SB Live! Value with all the money im saving you =)
GFX CARD - GeForce 2 MX at pricewatch if u want a cheaper alternative or stick with what you got if you want more power

Caution with the ABIT board... I was considering that board until I read up on all the problems with it. Out of the three, Asus, Abit and MSi board, the MSi board looks to be the most stable so far.

Yeah, them translucent colors are fruity... go with the Microsoft stuff... although my Natural Pro keyboard makes a squeak sound on the space bar.

I second the Soundblaster card...

If you can afford it, find yourself a nice flat screen monitor. Once you go that route, you'll never go back... fishbowls suck.

Maxtor's are great drives...good space for the buck. I use maxtors....BUT....

They suck at write speeds...like 1/5 the read speed. These are LOUSY drives if you do video capture or similar recording features....IBM deskstars are better.

Check around for Deskstar reviews...you'll find some HD-tach scores showing this clearly...

BlueAngel,

First, Check out my thread on the Antec SX1030. It comes in beige or black and is $91.49 shipped from Onvia.com

The case has all the features of a full server case but doesn't take up as much room.

The ASUS A7V is the MoBo I plan to use, has ATA100 and 4 IDE channels, 2 ATA100 and 2 ATA66-33. Gives you enough space for 8 IDE/ATAPI drives.

Why stop at 900mhz when you can find a 1GHZ processor at www.ibuyer.net for around 250.00

DCDomain is ABSOLUTELY correct on the flat screen. Better to have a FLAT 17" than a fishbowl 19" I chose the Viewsonic A75f.

The Creative stuff is ok, you could probably find a SB Live OEM for the same price as the 128.

I would go with a Plextor CD-RW, or look into a DVD-CDRW combo drive, they can be had for around 200 bucks now.

Everything else is personal taste, I recommend the Microsoft Internet Keyboards and the Logitech Optical mouse. Both can be had for around 20-25 dollars online

Just my two dinar.

Maverick319: Thanks for the headsup on the SX1030b deal... got it cuz of your thread I think.

The TDK Velocd seems to be a rebadged Plextor... so any of those two are great buys. The TDK currently has a $50 rebate for it. Don't forget that 16x burners are right around the corner. Yamaha sells one right now with no burnproof. Heard Sanyo released one already. Since Plextor and TDK both use Sanyo components, they should be out soon.

I heard the ASUS board had some problems too. But not as bad as the Abit board... the Asus will be my second choice if I can't find the MSi.

DCDomain, you will not be sorry you purchased this case. It is bulletproof. I really like the idea of the door, since it allows you access to 5.25 drives without having to pull the front cover off and loosen it.

Now you have something to put those cheap Antec 80mm fans into. When I started to put stuff into the case I was impressed with the build quality and how well this case is thought out. The fan blowing across the Hardrives was simple genius. I hope you enjoy your case as much as I do mine.

I like your site. Cool stuff.
