Knock it off! :p

Experts predict that consumer demand, already growing at 60 percent a year, will start to exceed supply as early as 2010 because of more people working online and the soaring popularity of bandwidth-hungry Web sites such as YouTube and services such as the BBC's iPlayer.

It will initially lead to computers being disrupted and going offline for several minutes at a time. Beginning in 2012, however, PCs and laptops are likely to operate at a much reduced speed, rendering the Internet an "unreliable toy."

My understanding is that a lot of the doom and gloom surrounding the "exaflood" is simply unfounded. Even with streaming video and other bandwidth hungry services becoming more popular, growth in demand just isn't large enough for it to be a serious issue.

ah yes this must be it. So the world will go on? Internet-less?

Wait, fuck that. We NEED the internets! We must build titanium and kevlar reinforced pipes.

The Mayans must have heard their alien visitor gods say the internet will collapse, and misinterpreted that as meaning "the world", simply in god lingo.

Make spam illegal. Enforce it. There, we have 90% more bandwidth now. Problem solved.

Of course, faster connections between nodes would be a plus too. Equipment is a 1 time cost, companies charge monthly for bandwidth, so it really does not matter how much better equipment will cost, it will get paid over time rather fast.
