You ever go test drive a car for fun?

My friend keeps pointing at new cars and saying we should go do test drive that. Even though we both have cars and aren't in the market for new ones.

Hopefully we won't come back with a new car 😛

Yeah, I drove a Miata once. Sure enough, they can HANDLE.

I'm screwing up the courage to drive an M3, but I have a feeling they'd just look at me and kick me out of the dealership🙂

My 17 year old friend test drives M3's from time to time

End of last year he said he was looking for a christmas present for his dad

Yep. One day I was bored so I stopped by the mitsu dealer. For no particular reason the guy wanted me to test drive an Evo. Who am I to complain?

Other cars I've drive with little/no intention of buying: '02 Maxima, '03 Mazda 6, '01 Civic EX....all I can think of right now.

LOL that was what I was thinking. They'll look at us and say I don't think you can afford this car....in fact you just sitting in it might decrease the value of the car. 🙂

how was the mazda 6? I was thinking of test driving that one.

I've driven a bunch. Mostly when I was in the market, or shortly after I bought a car to see what new cars comparable to mine came out.

It was ok. I drove a V6 auto (didn't have any sticks at the time). I guess for an auto it was ok but I'm much more used to manuals. Handling was pretty good. One nice thing about the auto; drop it into "manual" mode and it won't automatically upshift when you get to redline. I thought that was quite impressive.

EDIT: When I went for the Expedition $75 test drive deal I straight told the salesman I why I was there and that I wouldn't buy an Expedition so I looked at Foci for a while before handing him the certificate.

All it took was 45 seconds to get the test drive form signed, no test drive required 🙂

damn nice 🙂

45 seconds (plus driving to/from dealership) to earn $75 GC ... hell yeah that's a good deal 🙂

No. I wouldn't want some kid to go joyriding in my car before I buy it, so I don't do it myself. I've only test-driven cars I was considering buying.

Dealers don't sell test cars as new. No harm done, really. The model car will be destroyed anyway.

Uh, yes they do.....That's where a lot of loss-leaders come from IIRC.

Don't know where you're from, but we don't "destroy" ANY vehicles we've ever used as a demo. Why the heck would a dealer do that???

Well as someone that test drives cars as part of the job, I find its not all its cracked up to be. Just as porn stars no longer enjoy all the intimate aspects of a relationship anymore, I find i've lost a bit of the interest I once had in driving new cars.

Uh... no. They sell them. Some dealerships will have a system where they rack up all the test drive miles on a particular car, then sell that one at a discount. But most dealerships will just allow a couple of test drives per vehicle, selling a lot of cars with 20-30 miles on them. A lot of this depends on the desirability of the vehicle.

Yes, when I am in the market, I will test-drive numerous cars. I don't buy a car without knowing first-hand what the experience will be like. Some have been spirited, some not. Depends on the dealership and circumstances. I always defer to the salesperson as to how I'm allowed to drive it. He says to keep it cool, then I keep it cool. He says to open it up... 😀

Last week, I went for a test-drive in a brand-new Rubicon with a friend who has been looking to get one. He's owned Wranglers for the past 15+ years and really likes the new Rubicon. I can say that it amazingly drives almost like a car. Big improvement from the older Wranglers. My friend didn't buy though, he's waiting for the spring.

LOL. I don't mean destroyed as in the dealer sends it to the scrap yard. I mean that the car will be "destroyed" by the many people that test drive it; therefore test driving a car for fun won't add any further damage to what has already or will be done. Dealers sell the test models, but they sell them as test models with a discount. You know what you are getting into when you buy one. They are not re-packaged as new cars and sold as such. I hope that clears it up.

Read above. My comment was poorly worded, but I think it makes sense it you read my explanation.
