No. I wouldn't want some kid to go joyriding in my car before I buy it, so I don't do it myself. I've only test-driven cars I was considering buying.
Dealers don't sell test cars as new. No harm done, really. The model car will be destroyed anyway.
Uh... no. They sell them. Some dealerships will have a system where they rack up all the test drive miles on a particular car, then sell that one at a discount. But most dealerships will just allow a couple of test drives per vehicle, selling a lot of cars with 20-30 miles on them. A lot of this depends on the desirability of the vehicle.
Yes, when I am in the market, I will test-drive numerous cars. I don't buy a car without knowing first-hand what the experience will be like. Some have been spirited, some not. Depends on the dealership and circumstances. I always defer to the salesperson as to how I'm allowed to drive it. He says to keep it cool, then I keep it cool. He says to open it up...
Last week, I went for a test-drive in a brand-new Rubicon with a friend who has been looking to get one. He's owned Wranglers for the past 15+ years and really likes the new Rubicon. I can say that it amazingly drives almost like a car. Big improvement from the older Wranglers. My friend didn't buy though, he's waiting for the spring.
