I like USPS. They're my carrier of choice for everything aside from heavy freight. UPS hires retarded gorillas to handle packages, and it's a crap shoot whether or not you'll get your stuff in one piece. FedEx charges like a premium service, but gives the same shitty service everyone else does.

Then I shipped a Motorola SB5100 series modem in the original box to my sister in San Diego, CA. It was $11.55 just for the regular Priority Mail service -- too much if you ask me.

I thought Priority Mail always included tracking, but there was no tracking number on the receipt that was printed from the Automated Postal Unit.

Before the days of two days shipping everywhere, I used to routinely get 3 day deliveries in 2 days from FedEx. That was nice.

Shipped another package to my sister. Expensive. I hope it's speedy, at least...

USPS has pissed me off. Sometimes the tracking doesn't even show up which means they must not have scanned the label, or there's a database issue, I don't know.

I ordered a HDD on Amazon and it came in a small box. Well, the dummy post man tried to jam the damn thing in my small mail box.

I had packages not even get delivered!

Now we know who to blame when your nephews grades start to slip from playing too many video games. :colbert:

Shipped Saturday 8/8
Delivered Monday 8/10

Nice.

Now...

On the night of Thursday 10/1, I went to the post office near the Atlanta airport that's open until midnight to ship a package to an eBay buyer in Los Angeles. I used the automated postal unit to ship a medium flat rate box at 12:44 AM (technically 10/2). I figured this is closer to a big distribution hub and the package would be on its way when the post office opens again at 6:00 AM.

I was wrong. The package has had one tracking update since (10/2 5:57 PM "arrived at USPS Origin Facility"). That's over 17 hours and it practically hasn't moved. It has been 35+ hours and I have no indication yet that it has left Atlanta.

The Postal Service can surprise me occasionally with prompt delivery, but they often disappoint me with their partnerships. I am referring to SmartPost with FedEx and SurePost with UPS.

I have ordered and tracked many items that seem to travel quickly to the regional postal service facility- but then get bogged down transferring to the local post office and finally delivered, usually two days later.

Don't you just love SmartPost and SurePost; For me it is often and extra three or four days extra delivery time. This saves the shipper money but the often extra handling and transportation costs are paid by USPS, and either FedEx of UPS. No wonder the cost of stuff is some more transportation and handling then the product itself; the seller adds it on to the price but a cucumber doesn't cost a dollar, it costs a dime.

I sometimes order from Walmart home delivery and they have a warehouse near the Utah/Nevada border about 90 miles from Las Vegas and covered by FedEx out of the local FedEx Hub; the order is picked up and shows at a location about 6 miles from my house. If the order is FedEx I get it the next morning but if it is FedEx SmartPost it goes to Phoenix Arizona (Another day), then is given to the USPS (Another Day) and then ship by USPS back to Las Vegas (Another Day) and then given to my postman the following day (except around Christmas where it takes two days), then delivered to my house.
