Following a drop of 14.2% in the first quarter of 2011, the global average decline in pricing for DRAM slowed to 12% in the second quarter, according to IHS. The rate of decrease is expected to decline to 9% in the third quarter, and then dwindle to just 4% in the fourth quarter. The rate of decrease will further slow to just 1% in the first quarter of 2012, and then remain in the 3-4% range during the rest of 2012, IHS said.

and here I was thinking my next system would be a "beast" with 16GB of ram. looks like 2012 will have standard brand name units shiping with 8GB. So 16GB will not be special at all.

I wonder if going 24 or 32GB is going to be viable/useful outside of boasting :\

edit: On the other hand, with good prices, maybe the Gigabyte i-Ram drive will make a comeback.
