You can't reheat and eat hot dogs after they've been cooked

We were at a cookout today and one of my wife's friends said he was going to have one more before they threw them away. He said he didn't want them to go to waste. My wife asked why they would throw them away and he said to her, kinda like she was dumb (but not really) "You can't heat them back up and eat them after they've been cooked." She said she'd never heard of that and we do it all the time. Then dude's wife came in and agreed, both said their parents had always told them that. She reiterated that we do it and they both looked at her like she was crazy and asked "And you never get sick?!?!"

Did there used to be something like this with hot dogs, or are we just living on the edge?

And yes, I'm aware that hot dogs are usually already cooked when you buy them in the package.

Heh I dont see why you cant reheat a hotdog.
Afterall arent they pre-cooked anyways and sent out? You can eat them right out of the package.

They are dumb. You can reheat hotdogs, infact hotdogs are already cooked when sold, so the first time you heat them up you are infact reheating them.

That's one of my fav things to do. Grill some dogs on Saturday/Sunday, then reheat them during the week.

Maybe they just think they taste (even more) like crap after reheating? A lot of highly processed foods are practically un-edible after the initial cooking/heating phase. Now obviously you could still eat it, but who would want to? Kinda like fast food.

Also, how it was cooked will matter some. A grilled hot dog will be better reheated than one that was thrown in the microwave.

I think because everyone eats, they think they're entitled to an opinion on food and cooking. Bwahahahaha. You're good to reheat hot dogs but would not leave them at a temp between 40 and 140 for longer than 4 hours to make the health department happy. :)

i have never noticed them being any worse. Every time i grill something i make a package of nathens or hebrew nationals. even if we don't eat them. They make a good snack

I was once told that I'd get sick if I turned on the AC in my car right after getting in on a really hot day. This guy said that going from hot to cold in a hurry will make you really sick.

They are probably one of those people who do not like to eat leftovers because their parents told them it was not good because it was not fresh.....

Then they went out to the local chinese place and bought fried rice....oh the irony;)

I bet she believes you will cramp up and drown if you go swimming after eating as well.

I'll reheat whatever the hell I want. Except ice cream, that's a no-no.

This reminds me of how my friend's family had never heard of frying hot dogs, only boiling them.

Hot dogs used to come uncooked (WAY back in the day, pre-1950) and have minimal (if any) preservatives. I believe if you go to a high-end deli you may still be able to purchase these. They would be in the refrigerated meats case along with all other uncooked sausages.

Nowadays, most Hot dogs come vacuum-sealed in plastic, are loaded with preservatives, and are pre-cooked. These you can eat right out of the package (gross, but won't kill you). You can also heat and re-heat these without issue.

OP's friends are retarded.

rofl, ok. You can't(or not supposed to) re-freeze previously frozen Food, but never heard of re-heating issues.
