You can't post curse words in the forums

It makes the site look 'more professional'

along with the fisher price interface of FT and the giant party poker ads

this thread will get locked, thanks for asking a logical question though.

You can't post questions you don't know the answer to because it's been posted 4 years ago either?

Rats....

So what's the difference??? 😕

If you refuse to 'curse' but still say dang as substitution for 'd4mn' what's the difference?

I'm talking things like sh!t or fvck...

When you drop something and you say "shoot", all you're doing is substituting one word for the other.

The question is whether or not context defines the swear or not. It's an interesting question.

Good question.. I've always wondered what the difference was. I mean, people say CRACKER and FUDGE when they have the same meaning and intention as the "bad" version

exactly. it seems as if the intent is socially acceptable, but the follow-through is not. the issue is that "shit" and "fuck" are terms that are currently socially unacceptable whereas as "shoot" and "fudge" are socially acceptable. this raises the question of the etymology of these words and when they did become offensive and socially unacceptable. certainly words are just a collection of sounds that convey a meaning within a social context so long as the participants are aware of the context. if you say "fuck you" to a person who has no understanding of english, that person will not be offended because the social context is not conveyed in a way that he can understand it. similarly, i'm sure most people in the english speaking world would have no idea what "mocca-mocca su su ama" means when they hear it. thus it would be acceptable to utter such sounds because no one knows what the context is.
