You can probably ignore the Droid X2 now

In a way it makes sense. The Droid Bionic seemed to me to be the successor to the Droid X. I was really baffled when they also announced a Droid X2. Looks like the Droid Bionic will end up being that successor and the Droid X2 will be a value oriented 4.3 inch device

Value oriented? It's the same price but with less capacity on the included SD card. Seems like the best value would be to avoid the X2 altogether.

They announced a price for the Droid X2? If it's $199.99 on contract and only has a 2GB microSD card I would agree it should just be avoided.

That is a terrible deal. My Samsung Moment, which wasn't even very good when I bought it over a year ago for $80, came with a 2GB microSD card.

Hey if they want to move the Droid X2 down market and knock a bit off the price while trimming a few features, fine. But this is pretty dumb.

Did you even read the OP? Christ it's right there in his post...

"the Radio Shack subsidiary responsible for Sam's Club kiosks -- that calls the X2 "a new Droid X version" with a 2GB bundled microSD card replacing the original model's 16GB... and it'll sell for the same price. "

Am I being trolled?

You need to take a chill pill dude. Is it selling for the original price of the X or the price the X is selling at now? Two completely different prices. The current X isn't being sold with a 16GB card. It shouldn't be compared with the 16GB model in a negative light unless it will be selling for the same price that it was. The current X for $149 already comes with a 2GB card.

Okay so basically at some point Verizon dropped the price of the Droid X to $149 from $199 and also they reduced the memory card from 16 GB to 2 GB. These things may have happened at the same time, not sure.

So if the X2 sells for the same price that the X is selling for now, nothing at all will have changed - same memory capacity, same price. If they start selling the X2 for $199 then it'll be a price hike instead.

Either way the X does have 8 GB of internal memory, which is pretty good. So the loss of the large memory card isn't the end of the world, even if it does kinda suck. I prefer a large SD card over lots of internal memory - it's safer and more useful for things that eat storage like movies and camera photos.

Wait, so "Droid X2" is now their internal designation for the Droid X shipping with a 2GB memory card? So maybe this isn't talking about the actual Droid X2 at all?

Wow, what a great way to name a product.

The only redeeming quality of my Droid X is the 8gb of internal storage. Other than that, I find mine to be pretty crappy and can't wait to replace it with something. Going to have to try to warranty replace it first.

Motorola is going to have to make some big changes if I'm going to consider another phone from them; my next one will likely be an HTC that has an unlocked bootloader and doesn't really care what the mod community does with it.

Besides the locked bootloader, what don't you like about it? The only thing that seems to get mixed reviews is the screen size, which some love and some hate. Personally I love mine, and can't stand going to anything smaller anymore.

With the bionic coming out, you could've ignored the droid x2 anyway

Yeah a lot of people seem to like the Droid X; other than the locked bootloader it seems like a nice phone. Big screen, good battery life, physical face buttons.

Is the bionic going to have a locked boot loader?

No one knows for sure yet. Given Moto's track record, its probably I think. Various posts at XDA are claiming it'll be a signed boot loader, but not encrypted, similar to how the Xoom is. But its still months away from launch and we likely won't know until a few days before it hits retail for certain.

Bionic = 4G plan, no more unlimited (rumor is that Verizon will terminate unlimited plans just before this device hits)
X2 = 3G only

Many conflicting reports on the processor on the X2 -- is it Tegra2 or just a slightly overclocked version of the original? It seems likely that there's now a FFC though.

Mine freezes and crashes, jumps between 3g and 1x all the time, drops wifi connections, stops recognizing touch inputs. Plus the resource hog that is Motoblur.

I need to get a warranty replacement for the other issues. Tried liberty to get rid of Motoblur, but it would reboot during the day for no reason, so I went back to stock OS.

mine is a couple weeks old now, stock as well. i havent rooted or done anything other than available settings so far. i have none of these issues. well, the 3g to 1x switch is annoying, but its the service here rather than the phone itself. im not seeing motoblur as a hog much at all either, but im also not using their supplied widgets either. the screen remains the largest chunk of battery use, but thats to be expected. it is nice to be able to see the screen in direct sunlight after having a phone youd have to shade to see well enough to look up a number.

So you are purposely hanging on to a defective phone because...?

Verizon will terminate even grandfathered unlimited plans?

I think he means Verizon will replace their "unlimited" (actually 5GB) smartphone plans with a tiered or lower cap plans before the Bionic is released, so if you are a new customer, you won't be able to get unlimited on a Bionic.

I actually thought VZW already killed unlimited data plans but I just checked their website and they didn't. It's still $30/5 GB like it has been for a while.

I actually suspect that you won't be able to get 4G provisioned without getting the new cap.

Rumor is it will happen just before the Bionic's release... I wonder if this is part of VZ's thinking in holding off other LTE phones until then.

If you're already on contract, I don't think they can just terminate the contract. Prevent you from getting the same contract again or getting subsidized pricing on a new phone, different story.
