You can never have too much Grohl

The fact that 5 guys could inspire over 1000 musicians, half way around the world, in a country where English is not the first language, to come together and play that song is truly awe inspiring. Call it mainstream or American Nickleback, you have to be impressed with this group.

I'd say they made an impression.

I would love to hear what he thought about it. I got to think the feeling of having that many people playing your song is amazing.

good to see it worked.

Q: I'd love to hear the actual recording of how it sounded
A: Check this video
Q: But what about sync issues?
A: The drummers were REALLY solid, which helped A LOT. Also, we had a couple of big lights clicking along with the metronome.
Q: Are there really 1000 rock musicians in this part of italy who all like Foo Fighters enough to learn the song, move other plans for the day and travel along with their equipment to this place to do this?
A: Not from that single part of Italy! There used to be a page with names of all the participants and their hometown, I can't find it anymore. Anyways, I was there, I can tell you people came from all over Italy. I guess we're passionate people and we like ambitious and original projects! Also, I'm sure the organizers did a great job advertising, I actually found out about it through one of those random Facebook ads, which is nuts in itself, who would have thought?!
Q: What about the group on the stage in the middle - were they hooked up directly? Were they special in some way?
A: The group in the middle were so called 'Gurus', professional musicians hired by the organizer to serve as 'reference' for each type of musician. They recorded demos and put out advices on the website for us participants.
Q: Honest question though, wouldn't the speed of sound cause a bit of an issue?
A: Well, all I can say is that it worked well. I guess the fact we had LED lights clicking like metronomes + really solid and tight drummers (which for example, us guitarists could still hear properly even though amps were fairly loud) + a great conductor sealed the deal.
Q: They must have done a fair amount of post production to get this video.
A: We also recorded multiple takes, I think six in total. Post production of course is a given, surely it's something to be done.
Q: Did they audition people?
A: There was a selection process. We were asked to send a video showing we can play our instrument.
Q: Where you were standing, was there just a/an plug/extension cord on the ground for you to use?
A: Yes, we had multiple power strips all over the place

I thought this tribute was magnificent! I watched the video many times & shared on my SM. I have always loved Foo Fighters and this is the best cover of " Learn To Fly'" I have ever heard! Bravo to the 1,000!

In italy the school system is such that if your talented you get training even if you go to a technical school. You get Sol Fej early and theory early as well. You read music early it becomes second nature. There was a conductor as well and most classical musicians like to play around with guitars and such so its pretty easy to play guitar if your classically trained in any string instrument. If someone played till they got to college they would have 10 plus years playing in front of a conductor and having rock solid time.

Italy is full of passionate people and passionate people LOVE music. I had better schooling there when I was in the second grade equivalent than most fifth and sixth graders.

So.....it worked. Foo Fighters going to open up their next tour there.

Making good on a promise, Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters have revealed the Cesena, Italy show will take place Nov. 3 at the Carisport in Cesena. Grohl also offered commentary on the long journey of the band coming to play in the city and the video that inspired their appearance. It reads as follows:
I’ll never forget that day that my phone was flooded with texts from friends, all saying “Have you seen this???”, “Amazing!”, “So insane!” with an anonymous YouTube link attached. Assuming it was just another “CAT GETTING STUCK IN A PAPER BAG” video, I didn’t bite at first, but after the 10,000th message, I clicked the link and was absolutely blown away by what I saw. To see so many people put so much time, and effort, and love into making music moved me to tears. And the fact that it was a Foo Fighters song…well…it’s hard to put into words how humbled that made me feel. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful experiences of my entire life. I walked outside, sat on the grass, turned my camera on and immediately responded (in my best broken Italian)
“Stiamo arrivando! Prometto!”
Ever since that day we have been looking forward to this incredible experience. We’re happy to finally announce that it will happen on 3 November at Carisport
We are beyond excited an honored to come play for Cesena. An experience like this comes once in a lifetime, so I’m looking forward to a once in a lifetime show.
Ci vediamo presto, Cesena!
Davide (dave)
The date will actually kick off the next European leg of their touring in support of the Sonic Highways album. Shows for the run are booked through a Nov. 19 finale in Barcelona, Spain. See their Euro dates here. And just as a reminder of what sparked it all, check out the Rockin1000 performing “Learn to Fly” in the video at the top of this post.

I'll freely admit that I'm not a Foo Fighters fan. They only have about three songs that I really like and I would not go anywhere near one of their concerts. But I am a Dave Grohl fan on attitude alone if not on music. When he told Lars and Mettalica to go fuck themselves during the Napster days I started to like him even if I didn't like his bands. And that being said, the Foo Fighters are nothing like Nickelback.

Oh man, that was...

My boss is a huge Foo fan. He showed me this when it first came out... For some reason I missed the thread. Grohl is so badass. The only dude who will rock a denim cutoff vest to the Grammys. BAMF.

That's awesome. Hopefully they will have a few rows up front for the musicians from the video.
